Gu Jinzhi only appeared when the engagement banquet was almost over.

He wore a black trench coat, looking weary with travel, and his expression held an inexplicable loneliness.

The moment Gu Jinzhi entered, my gaze met his. He glanced at me and walked up to me.

"Sorry, work delayed me today."

A dazzling necklace was placed around my neck, Gu Jinzhi's actions were gentle and considerate, his voice exceptionally pleasant:

"Here, this is the engagement gift."

The crowd laughed and heckled for a moment. Mrs. Gu spoke half-jokingly:

"Wanyi, don't mind my son being busy with work all the time. See, he's spending the money he earns on you. In the end, you're the one getting the advantage."

To outsiders, marrying Gu Jinzhi indeed seemed a good deal for me.

My family was just an ordinary scholarly household, my parents were university professors, but the Gu Family was among the city's wealthy elite.

The two families had a bit of a connection in the previous generation. When I met Gu Jinzhi at the age of ten, I fell in love with him at first sight.

Since then, Gu Jinzhi had a little sister following him around like a tail.

But Gu Jinzhi always had his unattainable love, Zhao Yurou, whom he adored and cared for many years.

Unfortunately, Zhao Yurou went abroad for high school and never returned.

Gu Jinzhi, due to inheriting the Gu Family business, couldn't leave. Since then, he's remained indifferent towards other women, much to the concern of the entire Gu Family.

After I graduated from university, seeking closeness to Gu Jinzhi, I joined Gu Group.

Every day, I would volunteer for overtime just so I could chance upon Gu Jinzhi coming out of the president's office for a brief conversation.

For three whole years.

One night, out of the blue, Gu Jinzhi, reeking of alcohol, embraced me, lowered his head, and kissed my forehead:

"Song Wanyi, I know you like me. Be my girlfriend."

Later, I found out that Zhao Yurou had messaged Gu Jinzhi that day, saying she would never return to China and wishing him happiness.

To be brought together by such a humble offering did not make me angry; instead, I felt grateful.

I had loved Gu Jinzhi for so many years, becoming his girlfriend, what else could I not be satisfied with?

All that followed was somewhat uneventful. I dated Gu Jinzhi for eight years, and he was always courteous, never crossed a boundary.

Gu Jinzhi did what a boyfriend should do: accompany me, give me gifts, surprise me.

Yet, I never saw any emotional fluctuation in his eyes.

I've thought that living harmoniously for a lifetime could be quite nice.

This year, the Gu Family has been pressing us to get married, without any proposal or romance, Gu Jinzhi picked the day for the engagement and the day to register the marriage.

Looking down at the dazzling necklace on my neck, and then at the nearly perfect Gu Jinzhi, my expression suddenly became dazed.

Did I really get the advantage?
