An adored daughter - The family Dinner

Megyn turned the key in the lock and stepped into the house.

"Mum I am home," she called out.

From the kitchen, she heard her mother's voice. "I'm here my child."

Megyn walked in and found her mother, at the stove, stirring a pot of stew. The rich aroma filled the kitchen, instantly making her stomach grumble.

"I went to see Dr. Lucia as I told you," Megyn said, leaning against the counter. We had a wonderful conversation. She said she'd love to visit you soon."

"I pray that God blesses that woman. She has shaped you into such a confident young lady."

Megyn smiled in return.

"Well, don't just stand there smiling," her mother teased. "Your father will be home soon. Come and help me with dinner."

Megyn washed her hands and joined her mother in the kitchen. She loved watching her cook – everything she made was perfect. No matter how much Megyn tried to match her mother's skills, she always felt like she fell short.

"Mum, may I taste a chapatti?" she asked, already reaching for one.

Her mother playfully swatted her hand away. "No Megyn, if you start now, you won't eat at the table."

Megyn pouted. "Not even half a chapatti?"

"Nope."

Megyn knew that her mother would not allow her. She knew her to be a scanty eater. She always knew her mother's position on this and was just teasing her.

"OK mum. She sighed, defeated, and turned to cut vegetables for the salad.

Her mum just smiled.

The family gathered at the dining table. Megyn sat with her younger siblings, Mellissa and Mex, while their parents sat across from them.

"Guess whose birthday is coming up?" Mellissa asked excitedly.

"Mum's," Megyn and Mex answered in unison.

Their mother laughed. "You two know me too well."

"You are turning forty-two," Mex added proudly.

Megyn's father smiled at his wife. "And you don't look a day over thirty."

Mellissa and Mex groaned at their father's attempt at flattery, but Megyn smiled. Her parents had always had a strong, loving marriage – one she admired.

She thought back to Benjamin.

Would she ever have a relationship like this?
