CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

Mikaela woke up early in her room; she looked at herself; she was no longer Mikaela Shaina Fuego, but Fredelyn Chase Roman; even if her name was changed, the blood that flowed in her veins was still Fuego.

She looked at herself in the large mirror; she examined her appearance.

Mikaela Her twin was calling her again, and suddenly a woman in uniform appeared.

"Ellese," she said.

Prepare yourself; we are about to achieve justice.

"When will justice come, Ellese?" She asked with sadness; several months had passed since the event that had become a nightmare for her. When would she see Chesca again?

Please be patient, Mikaela, and assist them. You, Sister Chesca, are the hope of Felisa and me.

She just nodded then, and before she left, her twin hugged her, and she felt a cold caress at that moment.

Be careful, be careful, Giovane.

After saying those words, they disappeared. Ellese or Felisa would visit her because she was still young back then; she already could see souls.

She sat down; one day she and Chesca would meet; her true memories also needed to be restored because Chesca was the one who had been with Felisa and Ellese for a long time. Chesca's identity was the only one not seen by most in the public records, as she was the youngest child of another woman with her father.

When her two siblings died while she was hiding in the Roman mansion, it was made to seem that she was missing or had died while escaping from her father's pursuers.

Mikaela had the freedom to choose back then what to do with her life when she escaped; she didn't erase her memory, unlike erasing Chesca's memory back then.

It was painful for her to accept in her heart to erase her sister's memory, but that was the way to protect Chesca as well; only Giovane and her father recognized her identity.

She has already started acting; despite whatever may happen to her and Chesca, they will search for the evidence that Chesca's mother has hidden. She has people she trusts in the organization who act as her eyes for the events. She is saddened that one of the people she trusted is no longer in this world.

She swore that she would bring justice to the deaths of her siblings and the innocent people caught up in their father's greed. She only learned the truth when they were abducted from school and taken to a distant place; there, they experienced living in fear.

Mikaela received a warning from a trusted source that they would face death and silence. Particularly, they protect Chesca to the best of their abilities until they also uncover a crime involving her twin.

They found out that their father had killed their mother. They were still young, but they knew it was no longer a good place to live with someone who was supposed to be the pillar of the home.

"Mikaela," her cousin suddenly called out.

The one who had called her interrupted her train of thought.

"You're awake now." He even said.

She just nodded; Jake was looking at her then.

"What do you want to do now?" The question from the person in front of her caught her off guard.

"Chesca's memory is slowly returning," said the one watching her. "She is showing symptoms that her memory is about to come back. As someone close to her, what do you want to do?" This explains the current situation.

Are her memories coming back? She wondered in her mind.

"I won't stop you because you are Chesca's sibling." He even said that.

Even though she wanted to cover up this memory, she needed Chesca now; she knew the memory that had caused her sister severe trauma. To help her sister cope, they decided to temporarily erase the memory.

She only swallowed hard then, her heart and mind at odds over what decision to make for her sister.

"Felix," called his cousin Jake.

Felix didn't answer, just looking at her.

"Do you also see Ellese?" She could only say.

"What is your decision, Mikaela?" Felix avoided her question.

She only sighed then.

"Treat her memory, the memory from before." She just clenched her fists in frustration.

She knows her choice is selfish, but it's for their family; she's tired of hiding in the past. She needs to do her best because her twin and Felisa are also counting on her.

"If that's the case, she will stop taking her medications; she will know the side effects when she stops taking them." Jake warned her.

She nodded then, knowing the side effects he was referring to, but she knew her sister could handle all of that.

"Felix, tell the doctor who is looking at Ruth."

Felix didn't answer. He walked away to carry out his cousin's orders.

"I can't forget Fernan." She only said...

Felix stopped walking and looked at her. "Be safe, or Fernan and her siblings will haunt me." Again, he walked away after saying that sentence.

Her cousin looked at her then. "Chesca's life will no longer be ordinary when her true memories return." Her cousin said.

"I hope you didn't make a mistake with your decision, Mikaela." Jake turned around and walked away.

Even then, she had already distanced herself from her because Jake harbored resentment toward the Fuego family. Jake only helped them because her real cousin, Chesca, was involved. However, she is still grateful for the shelter they provided her back then.

Ellese, guide and help me in every decision I make. I'm not as brave as you, Ellese. She thought to herself while looking at the picture of her lifelong companion when they were still alive.

She needs to prepare; she has also heard that her brother Giovane, their older brother, is getting back into the black market.
