Chapter 6 – Toward the Forest of Illusions

Part II – Dialogues and Dynamics

The path wound silently through ever-taller trees, their roots twisting through the earth like serpents.

The mist grew thicker with every step, wrapping the travelers in an intangible shroud.

Yuu, with his tail held high and ears perked up, continued to lead them, occasionally stopping to make sure Yuri was still following.

Every so often, he let out cheerful little yips and more than once tried to leap into the girl's arms, drawing a few light giggles.

"Looks like you've found yourself a very special admirer," Kayla remarked, casting an ironic glance at Yuri as she walked gracefully despite the uneven ground.

"He's... cute," Yuri replied, absentmindedly stroking Yuu's soft fur.

Despite the surreal atmosphere, the little fox-like creature was a source of warmth and comfort.

Lucen watched the scene in silence, walking a few steps behind.

His eyes, barely visible beneath his hood, lingered on Yuri longer than he perhaps intended to show.

As if he were trying to understand something about her.

Something even Yuri herself might not yet know.

"Never let your guard down, little Yuri," Kayla said in a light tone laced with warning. "In this forest, even the flowers can deceive you."

Yuri nodded, clenching her hands into fists.

She knew she was still inexperienced, but she had promised herself she would grow stronger.

Not just for her own sake, but for all those who would come to rely on her—even if she didn't yet know who they were.

Lucen stepped a little closer, his cloak brushing the ground.

"Not everything you see will be real," he murmured, without looking at her.

"And not everything you feel will be false."

Yuri looked up, caught off guard by the cryptic words.

But Lucen had already resumed walking, as if he hadn't said anything unusual.

With a sigh, Yuri followed, holding little Yuu close as he gave her cheek an affectionate lick.

The Forest of Illusions awaited them.

And the first veil of deception was already beginning to fall.
