Chapter 6

1 week later

Ria makes her way inside the big lobby of a hotel. “Good Afternoon, my name is Ria Choudhary. I am here for the interview for the post of a waitress” Ria says to the receptionist. “Okay, make your way to the second floor the third room. you can wait there” the reseptionist said “Okay, thank you.” Ria says “being courteous isn’t that hard, Liam Woods could learn that” Ria mutters in her mind as she takes the stairs since the hotel doesn’t have an elevator.

Ria walks into the room she was directed to and sees a lady sitted. She takes her seat and says “Hello” to her who says a “hello” to her back.

“Tina Smith, you’re next” a man dressed a bit shabbily in a white dress shirt that is missing a tie, loose slacks, and worn out shoes. The lady sitting right next to Ria stands up and goes into the room with the man.

A few minutes later

The second candidate Tina comes out and heads home. “Ria Choudhary, you’re up next” the same man says to Ria who follows him into the room. “Take a seat Miss Choudhary” the man says. “So tell me about yourself, and why you’re perfect for this role” the man says. “Well, my name is Ria Choudhary as you already know. And i am suited for this role because i have good listening skills, communication skills and customer care skills because i’ve once worked as a waitress before at a local restaurant during my mid teenage years. I believe that my past experience has helped me hone the skills i need to perform well in this position” she says. “Hmmm” he says while jotting somethings down. “Okay, so how long did you work at your previous position?” the man asks her “2 years” she says and the man nods. “Okay, we’ll get back to you pretty soon” the man says “okay” she says “have a good day” the man says to her “have a good day too” she says and leaves his office.

15 minutes later

Ria is seated on a bus on her way home. “I really hope i get this job this time” she says to herself.

Flashback

Ria walks into clean hearts hospital and she notices some of the nurses and hospital staff giving her weird glances. “Ria, Doctor Smith will like to see you, he told me to tell you to go to his office once you get to the clinic” Claire a nurse and someone Ria is familiar with tells her. “Okay” Ria responds before she goes to Dr Smith’s office. She knocks on the office door “come in” she hears from inside the office. “Good morning Doctor Smith” Ria says to the resident doctor “Ria, good morning. You may take a seat” he says and Ria takes a seat in front of his table facing him. “Miss Ria, you got a very bad report from your recent client Mr Liam Woods and he was even threatening to sue not just you but the entire clinic for your lack of professionalism and medical etiquette” Doctor Smith says and Ria looks taking aback. “Doctor Smith, was that what Mr Woods said?” she asks and Dr Smith looks at her from behind his glasses “Sir, he was being disrespectful and insulting” Ria says “that is still not an excuse for you to not be professional in doing your job” Doctor Smith says and Ria tries to speak before he stops her. “Look Ria, i’ll have to let you go” he says to her and the colour drains from Ria’s face “Doctor Smith–”she tries to speak “Ria, we can’t keep you as a physiotherapist at our clinic anymore, i’m sorry” Dr Smith says and Ria takes a very deep breath to control her temper and her out-burst. “Meet the accountant for your salary” Dr Smith says and Ria looks at Dr Smith with a plain expression “very well then Doctor Smith, it was nice working in your clinic” she says before leaving the office.

End of Flashback

Ria keeps praying that she gets the job at the hotel as she sits on the bus.

The next Morning

Ria is making the last box of cereal in her parents house when the doorbell rings, she goes to open the door and sees a man dressed in a black suit. “Good morning Miss Choudhary” the man says “Good morning” she says and the man hands her an envelope which she takes from his hand “you’ve been served” he says to her before he leaves and she looks shocked. She takes the envelope inside before reading its content.

“Good day Miss Choudhary,

This is to inform you that you have three days to complete the payment for the mortgage of the house you live in at 113 May Park Avenue, Orchid road.

Failure to do this will result in the reclaiming of the property by 20th June 2024”

And just like that the hunger Ria was filling is gone as her stomach sinks and she starts to have goose bumps all over her body and she sinks down to her house pavement and sits down.

The next morning

Ria gets a phone call "Hello" she picks up the call "hello, Miss Choudhary, this is Mr Evans from your interview at small lake hotel" he says "oh hello sir, yes sir" Ria says "I want to inform you that unfortunately we couldn't offer you a job at small lake hotel" he says and Ria's heart skips "what?, sir, but why? what happened?" she asks "nothing, it's my hotel so I decide who works in it or not. besides I found a more qualified candidate" he says and Ria's hearts sinks again "okay sir, have a good day" she says "have a good day" Mr Evans says before hanging up "God, what do I do now?, please help me" she says on the verge of tears. She decides to go out to look for another job. she comes to a big and very beautiful looking bar and club and at the top was written "magic city" Ria gulps before walking into the bar/club. she sees a man standing at the entrance of the bar/club. "good day, i'll like to see the manager of this place. I want to apply for a job here" she says the man looks at her from head to toe and he scoffs. "you can go in" he says to her with a mocking smile. She gives him a weird look before going into the club. There are men smoking,drinking and almost naked women dancing on poles, dancing on the dance floors, people playing cards, playing roulette,and betting. some people were looking at her as she kept walking in the club. "hello beautiful, what do you want?" a lady says to Ria and Ria is startled because she didn't see the woman coming from behind her. "hello, i'm here to find a job as a waitress" Ria says "okay baby girl, follow me" the woman says to her and she follows the woman to a beautiful and well furnished office. "madam, we got a potential worker" the lady says before sitting down non chalantly on a black big couch. Ria says a beautiful looking woman in her late thirties with a cigar in her hand. "good afternoon ma'am"Ria says politely at the woman who ignores her greeting "turn around, I want to see you" the woman says and Ria confused turns around "take of your clothes" she says and Ria is shocked at the woman's request. "No, no madam. she ain't here to dance. she wants to be a waitress" the lady who brought Ria into the madam's office says. "thought as much because she looked like a scared rabbit when she walked into my office. she says while looking at Ria with a hint of disgust in her facial expression. "take her, get her a uniform and she can start" the woman says to the lady who brought Ria. "okay, madam" she says "come on baby girl" the lady says and Ria is really surprised at how fast she gets the job.

"I got the job just like that?" Ria asks the lady wit her "yeah, you want a job here you get it as long as you are able to do the job you get to keep it" the lady says "you'll be on a one month's probation though" the lady said "Okay" Ria says "so what about my salary?" she asks "well it depends on your role here" the lady says "if you're a dancer you could make between $20,000- $50,000 and make up to $5,000 $7,000 in tips or gifts by your clients. then if you give your clients private services at their homes or where ever they want it that'll attract higher money" she says to Ria "okay, so what about as waitress?" Ria asks "well, your salary is usually between $2000-$2500 a week and the tips depends on what the customer feels like giving you" the lady says and Ria sighs "what?" the lady asks "don't like it?" she asks "well, you could always become a dancer" she says and Ria shakes her head as a "no" "aiit" she says "what's your name?" Ria asks her "Shantelle" she says "okay, i'm Ria" Ria says to Shantelle "nice name" Shantelle says. "here your uniform, change and you can start serving" Shantelle says "Okay" Ria says.

A man stands in the club with a smirk on his face "Hello Boss, the trap just caught the rabbit" the man says "yes boss" he says and hangs up.
