Chapter 8: The Medieval Empire I

We eventually arrived at the last village before the Medieval Empire. That's when Miki said " I won't go any further. You see that? That's the castle. I don't have any business going there, I don't trade with them." He seemed to have been banished from that place by the way he talked, but I didn't have time to talk about it. I was already seeing the large, large, large wall and the castle emerging from behind it. That wall was at least twenty kilometers long and ten meters high!

Close enough, it was fifteen meters high, thirty kilometers long, fifteen kilometers wide, for an area of four hundred and fifty square kilometers. He's getting better at judging distance, guys. Two hand claps for him, please.

Forsaken and I arrived at the main gate, after a two hours walk, because of that dumb close-but-far effect.

But strangely, when I saw people at the main gate, I didn't quite catch it at first, but I understood almost everything they were saying. Then it clicked in my head: they were talking a similar language to one I had learned in my homeworld! So, no more months of language studies ahead! I was truly happy! I told Forsaken to follow me, and I wore my mask.

The mask! It's the mask! I told you!

The guard said " Hey son, no mask here. Take it off—your armor too. Drop your weapons; we're searching for any poisonous substances on you." , so I did. And he asked me " Where are you from, kid? You don't sound like anyone I've ever heard in my life." I couldn't tell him I came from another world, that would be an instant persona non grata phrase.

*member of the crowd: Persona what?*

Argh, shut up, you're disturbing my storytelling.

I told him " The Anza Village ", and he said " Oh, the one which got attacked by the exiled? I'm sorry for you. But why did you come all the way to here ? ", I told him I wanted to relocate with my little brother. He accepted the answer, and asked me " Do you have hallucinogenic herbs on you ? " and he suddenly found Mama Ngala's medicinal herbs on me... But I managed to explain what it was.

Overall, he was asking too many questions. Let's skip that part.

He eventually let me through and AHHHH!

*member of the crowd: Ah?*

I have a cramp! My left leg! Help me!

—Is that one of your mental tactics again?

No, I'm damn serious, I have a cramp!

Ahem... Yeah... So... Seems like he can't continue for the time being. We'll wait for him to get better.

Okay, Since I can see the present and the past, I've seen many disturbing things. For the time being, I will make you a top 10 of the weirdest things I've ever seen.

10: I often peaked at people who had hobbies. The weirdest one yet was someone who collected used chewing gums...

9: I already saw someone instantly take fire because he bad-mouthed someone else. Don't ask how, I won't tell you.

8: Modern art.

7: Someday, I saw a couple laughing in a parc. But no joke was told...

6: Trend-driven people.

5: One day, I was looking at a woman on her couch, and she suddenly screamed " I know you're looking at me!"... How dare you break the fourth wall, female human?

4: A guy who liked breaking his friendships with women, for no reason.

3: Manipulative men.

2: Manipulative women.

1: Spicy food fans.

Yeah, I don't understand why people would volunteerly burn their mouths. Maybe I don't understand because I have never eaten anything in my existence, but my point still stands.

Oh, my bad , I think I forgot one. The complementary number is... Drums... Celebrity crushes!

Oh, he's feeling better, let's go back.

Damn! That cramp was something else.

Where was I even ? Ah yeah, the gate.

The guard said " Son, since you are new here, it's my duty to help you accommodate, conformally to the new bill adopted by the Eastern King Lancelot II ", and it was a good thing. He asked to follow him, and we went to a currency exchange office.

After a few months, I've gotten quite some money, but not an enormous amount, since I was incapacitated for most of the time. I had sixty Zonas. This miserably gave me only twenty Crisons.

Let's talk moneyyy!

60 Zonas gives us 20 Crisons. So, if my equations skills aren't rigged, 1 Crison is equivalent to 3 Zonas, 1 Zona is equivalent to a third of a Crison. It gives us 1 Zona being approximately 0.33 Crison.

The Crison is the official currency of the kingdom of Barmy, fourth and lastly incorporated kingdom of the " Medieval Empire " ( Yeah, I know its actual name, but I won't tell you ). And yeah, four kingdoms. That empire is huge.

It was enough to live on a full week, but by eating bread everyday at every meal of the day! So, again, I had to get a JOB!

Next, he brought me to an inn and said: " This is the cheapest inn in town. If you need something, I will be doing my shift from afternoon till night everyday. Best of luck, my friend! " He wasn't a bad person, contrary to how I portrayed him earlier. He just irritated me with his mountain of questions.

I thanked him and was about to enter the inn with Forsaken... However, I felt my whole body tremble. I had my mask in hand, and I decided to wear it. I was still feeling that sensation. It was really weird.

Ohhh yeahhhh, the real deal! You're not ready for what coming, I assure you!... Hehehe, it's about to get bloody.

Forsaken even asked me: " Boss, what's up with you? "—

*member of the crowd: You made him call you " Boss " ? Seriously?*

I didn't. He chose by himself.

So, I told him: " I don't know. But something weird is definitely happening. "

And I opened the inn door... And it was the most soul-crushing, heart-coldering, rain-falling event since my death.

In front of me was Caryn... The same Caryn from the beginning.

*The crowd: What ????*

I told you you weren't ready, ahaha!

Yeah... My heart was racing. To be hundred percent honest with you, I kinda froze into place. I stared at her directly in the eyes. She couldn't see me looking, since the mask didn't have any eye holes.

She then asked: " How do you manage to see through that mask? " And she got more and more curious and came closer.

Seemed like she transmigrated just like me, unfortunately. And worse, in the same universe, on the same planet, the same continent, the same empire, the same kingdom, the same town and the same inn I was walking in ? Nah, that's shit is fucked up. Who writes my life so I can slap him in the face?

Pfff ahahaha!

So, I didn't really want to tell her yet. I just went in and said: " Good afternoon, madam. " and she smiled and said: " I'm still young, why would you call me madam? " Then she laughed. Ah crap! She was so beautiful. Even more than she was before all of that.

She said: " Do you want to eat or rent a room? ". But I wanted to punch her in the face and kiss her right after.

I said: " A room " in the coldest tone possible.

She said it was three Crisons. I was about to pay, and she asked my name.

*Member of the crowd: What did you say?*

David. I told her my name was David Flamencoutch.

*The crowd laughing*

She took my " luggage " , if you can call it as that, and escorted me to the room. I saw her body, and it was all regret. " Why wasn't I lucky enough to have her? " was the only thought I had.

We eventually arrived in the room. A good thirteen square meters room with a window directly giving a direct view of one of the four castles. It wasn't close to it, but the view was good. I still don't know how it was possible for that inn to be that price for so many advantages.

She said to me: " Anything else? " and I responded, " Yes ", and I told Forsaken to lock the door. She didn't immediately understand what was happening, since I was speaking to a different language to Forsaken.

*member of the crowd: Wait a second... Since Forsaken is a nomad and comes from that Empire, how is that possible that you both speak the village's language?*

Me speaking the same language as him is not my problem. You should ask him how he started talking the same language as I do. I am immune to that question.

It's about to get really violent here... Blood. everywhere. hehehahaha!
