On the eleventh day of practicing the 'Immortal Method,' Roy took time away to participate in the match against University of Science and Technology.
In truth, University of Science and Technology's strength didn't lie in their Trainer program, but rather in their Breeder specialty. They recruited Pokémon graduate students from across the country and produced numerous research specialists for the nation each year.
University of Science and Technology participated in the National University League purely to fulfill national requirements—essentially attending part-time... Despite this, they still ranked among the 'Linhai Six Elite.' Though they occupied the lowest position, this achievement spoke volumes about their primary expertise.
Against University of Science and Technology, Roy once again took the starting position and won effortlessly without revealing any of his secret techniques.
After the match, the University of Science and Technology's team proved to be the most amicable opponents Roy had faced after being defeated. They showed no concern about winning or losing, instead greeting Roy warmly.
The captain of their team even invited Roy out for dinner and made a special request.
"You want to collect data about Mimikyu?"
"That's right!"
The team captain, named Avery, had a somewhat feminine-sounding name but was actually a bespectacled young man. He spoke sincerely: "Mimikyu has been around for quite some time now. I assumed Pokémon Daily would have asked you for data collection again. Surprisingly, more than a month has passed, and they haven't made any moves. I thought, perhaps we could publish a paper on Mimikyu first."
Roy found this situation somewhat peculiar himself.
After the previous Vulpix interview, Pokémon Daily had responded promptly, sending someone to interview him the very next day.
But this time, after half a month, no one had appeared.
...Did Mimikyu's less appealing appearance compared to Vulpix really warrant such different treatment?
What was happening with the Pokémon League?
Or perhaps, what was occurring in Alola's spiritual realm?
Noticing Roy's thoughtful expression, Avery mistook it for hesitation and quickly added: "I believe Mimikyu's information will hold tremendous academic value. It's the only Ghost/Fairy combination and, if I'm not mistaken, Mimikyu's ability is also unprecedented, correct?"
"This paper will certainly create significant interest. I'll include your name as a co-author. When recognition comes, you'll receive your share. I can even offer you all the prize money!"
Seeing Avery's earnest gaze, Roy smiled gently and replied, "Senior, I wasn't refusing, so there's no need for such formality."
"You... you mean you agree?" Avery asked, surprised.
"Yes," Roy nodded.
After participating in so many matches, Mimikyu's information advantage had long since diminished. While specific details remained unknown, anyone with a discerning eye could recognize her unusual ability resembling Substitute.
This timing worked perfectly, as Roy had recently spent considerable Pokédollars and could use the popularity gained from selling Mimikyu's data...
They finalized the arrangement over a friendly meal, both host and guest enjoying themselves.
Roy accompanied Avery to the University of Science and Technology laboratory, where they spent an hour collecting data.
Before departing, they exchanged contact information, promising to stay in touch.
Relationships often develop this way—through small, unconscious interactions.
The visit to University of Science and Technology to collect Mimikyu's data represented merely a minor episode in Roy's journey.
He returned to his practice regimen, continuing to accumulate knowledge and strengthen his abilities.
The activation time for Z-Moves had decreased from thirty seconds to seven seconds. In battle, this duration remained notably long, but as long as an opponent could be temporarily controlled, execution became feasible.
On the fifteenth day of practice, Blastoise successfully mastered Iron Defense and Light Screen.
Lucario had also gained considerable knowledge, elevating his 'Aura Sphere' technique to master level.
Everything progressed favorably.
Just when Roy believed these peaceful days would continue until the confrontation with Stonecrest University, an unexpected phone call disrupted his plans.
Roy felt surprised when he saw the name associated with the incoming number.
"Why would Elite Carter be calling me?"
Roy hadn't seen Carter in five months.
He held great respect for this senior who had willingly stepped aside to create opportunities for him.
The 'Infinite' Calm Mind technique had helped tremendously. Without this exceptional mental power training method, Lucario and the others couldn't have developed their psychic abilities so rapidly.
This technique benefited Roy more than even the "Aura Boxing" method. While it didn't directly enhance combat capabilities, it improved the entire team's foundation, establishing the groundwork for everything else.
If Carter had only been kind to him personally, Roy would merely feel grateful, not rising to the level of respect.
What truly earned his admiration was Carter's agreement to receive the 'Cosmic virus' transplant himself.
After all, why had Elite Carter sent his son to Capital University?
The answer was obvious—the virus.
As an Elite, Carter had every right to refuse the university's proposal and ensure the virus went to his children as initially agreed, compensating Roy separately from his personal funds.
But he hadn't done that.
Faced with choosing between 'principle' and 'personal affection,' Carter had chosen the former.
"Long time no see, Elite Carter," Roy greeted.
"Yes, almost half a year has passed," Carter replied gently. "Though we haven't met, I frequently hear news about 'Capital University's Roy'—almost too frequently."
"Is it annoying?" Roy asked with a slight smile. "Well, you'll have to endure more suffering in the future, old man, as I plan to cause even greater sensations."
"Hahaha."
After their brief reminiscence concluded, Carter addressed his purpose.
He stated directly: "You've been added to the Pokémon League's key training list."
Roy: "???"
This opening revelation genuinely confused him.
The League's key training list?
Wasn't that something his fans had exaggerated about him?
Such a thing actually existed...
How impressive!
But why him?
Roy could proudly trace his family back five generations without finding a single Trainer. He was a pure newcomer with absolutely no background.
Since becoming a trainer, every connection he'd established had been made through his own efforts.
Perhaps he possessed genuine talent, but in this world, 'talent' didn't determine everything.
Carter explained: "Mr. Lander recommended you."
Mr. Lander... Roy considered this briefly, concluding that only the retired former champion would have sufficient influence to elevate someone from a common background onto the key training list.
"Don't overthink it," Carter said with a smile. "Senior Lander's lifelong mission has been to discover more talented individuals for our country. The potential you've demonstrated has impressed him, that's all."
"I see."
Though Roy acknowledged this verbally, he silently committed this favor to memory.
The significance of this favor, however, would depend on what benefits it might bring.
If the advantages proved ordinary, he would decline... With his current perspective, Roy no longer valued average resources and saw no reason to incur obligations for them.
"You called to inform me of something specific?" Roy asked.
"Yes," Carter replied. "Prepare yourself—I'll send someone to escort you to a location shortly."
"Where am I going?"
Hearing this question, Carter paused before naming a place Roy had never heard of.
"The Nirvana Spirit Realm."
"Even within the Pokémon League, only a select few know of this place."
