At this point, even a pig would understand what was going on.
Clearly, Yasmine used to work at Evan's company but left to start her own business for some reason. Now, Evan was trying really hard to bring her back.
The result was obvious.
But!
Facing a rich guy with some influence, who had already planted "witnesses," who would dare to get involved in this mess?
"You're dreaming!"
Yasmine clenched her fists tightly and said coldly, "You think you can force me back like this? Go ahead and call the police! You think I'm scared?"
Clap! Clap! Clap!
Just then, the sound of clapping came from the crowd, followed by a mocking laugh. "You think hiring a few extras makes your plan solid? All that fat and no brains... Sometimes, you don't even need surveillance to reveal the truth, you know?"
Who was that?
Evan's face darkened as he turned toward the source of the voice.
Merritt ignored him and walked straight to the spot where the two cars had crashed.
After a quick look, he pointed at the tire of the luxury car and said calmly, "Do you know why there's a black mark here? That's proof of a sudden brake."
"Kid! I'm warning you, don't stick your nose in this, or else..." Evan growled menacingly.
"What black mark?"
"There's nothing there!"
The so-called "witnesses" quickly ran over from different directions, trying to rub the black mark out with their shoes, trying to get rid of the evidence.
Merritt didn't stop them. Instead, he waved his phone in the air. "You know, you don't always need traffic cams to catch the truth."
Damn it!
Evan's chubby face turned deep purple.
His people were clearly destroying evidence, and Merritt wasn't even stopping them, he was holding up his phone like a boss, proving he had recorded everything!
Rage! Total rage!
Evan couldn't believe his perfect plan was completely wrecked by some random guy who just popped out of nowhere.
Was he mad?
Seeing the purple streams of energy flying out from Evan and getting absorbed by the Desire Pearl in his mind, Merritt was overjoyed. The more pissed he got, the better!
"You—"
"Oh, by the way!"
Before the furious Evan could finish, Merritt turned to the crowd and pointed at Yasmine. "I've got proof, but I need more witnesses. The facts are clear, this was a setup. Lucky for her, I've got the best evidence. I believe everyone here has a sense of justice. Are you all really going to just stand there and let this beautiful girl get bullied by these guys?"
A beautiful girl!
Pretty faces were always useful, they made people want to help.
After Merritt's words, the crowd began to react.
"I saw it! The car in front slammed the brakes on purpose! This was all planned!"
"I'm willing to be a witness!"
"Call the cops! Even if this ends up in court, I'll testify!"
"We should sue him, not just for the accident, but for trying to frame her too!"
"Just because you've got money, you think you can do whatever you want? This is a country with laws!"
Merritt knew that not all of these people had actually seen what happened. But honestly, who cared?
As long as more people stood on Yasmine's side, Evan would be screwed. If it turned out he had purposely framed her, it'd be a serious deal, not just some small traffic case. He could even end up with a criminal record.
"Kid! Just wait!"
Evan knew he'd completely lost. He glared at Merritt with venom in his eyes, then turned and headed toward his car, clearly trying to sneak away.
Leave? Just like that?
Where do you think you're going?
Merritt wore a cold, smug smile. "With so many brave people here willing to speak up, do you think you can just walk away? If bad guys could get off that easy, what's the point of having laws?"
"You... what do you want?" Seeing the crowd getting riled up, Evan felt a little guilty.
"You should ask her what she wants," Merritt said, pointing at Yasmine.
The private settlement was simple.
Evan had to cover the damages to his own car and pay Yasmine $10,000.
Amid the cheers of the onlookers, he fled in total embarrassment.
He memorized Merritt's handsome face—this wasn't over.
Anger filled the air!
First, there was Yasmine's anger, then Evan's.
Was that the end? Not even close.
There are six main emotions, and anger is just one of them.
As the righteous crowd joined forces to bring down the scheming Evan and cheered in victory, blue streams of energy representing joy flowed from the people toward Merritt, all of it getting absorbed by the Heavenly Pearl.
This emotional energy came from the crowd. Each person's feelings might not have been as strong as Evan or Yasmine's, but together, the amount was pretty massive.
Merritt could actually feel his worn-out life force completely restored!
Even though he still had no cultivation, with his life force back, his body was now like a normal person's again.
That was insanely fast!
Merritt had thought, with the state his body was in, it'd take forever to recover before he could even think about cultivating again.
But in less than half an hour, just the emotional energy from some anger and joy had completely healed him!
Still...
There was something strange.
When Evan fled in a panic, a bit of fiery red energy had come out of him and gotten absorbed by the Heaven's Desire Pearl. That was hatred.
Apparently, the six emotions collected by the Heaven's Desire Pearl were split into two types.
Joy, anger, sorrow, and fear were in one group. Love and hate were in another, on a higher level.
Hatred was basically a stronger version of anger.
But for some reason, the anger and joy Merritt absorbed got instantly turned into special energy that healed his body.
Yet, the red energy from hatred just sat there in the Pearl and didn't change or do anything.
"Weird..." Merritt muttered to himself as he walked forward. He didn't know much about the Heaven's Desire Pearl yet.
"Please wait a moment!"
He hadn't walked far when a gentle voice called out from behind him. Yasmine quickly ran up. "Sir, please wait!"
Merritt turned to look at her, a bit curious. "What is it?"
"Thank you for what you did earlier, I mean..."
"It's nothing. Goodbye." Merritt turned to leave.
Helping someone out of kindness?
Yeah right!
