You Are Pregnant

Kelsey couldn't help but wonder, when did she start to think that Rhett might have feelings for her?

Maybe it was during all those little moments, those small details that caught her off guard and made her heart flutter, only for him to leave her feeling cold and alone in the end.

Rhett let go of her hand after she finished the blood test.

"Once Elise's surgery is over, you can go see Dexter," he said.

Kelsey's eyes flickered. She lowered her gaze and murmured,

"Okay, I understand."

He always had a way of making her feel like she was in heaven one second, and then dragging her straight to hell the next.

The nurse packed away the blood collection kit and said,

"Press on the cotton ball for a few minutes. If there's no bleeding, you're good to go."

Kelsey stood up and politely thanked the nurse.

After the nurse left, she turned to Rhett and asked,

"Mr. Clark, I've packed up everything in the villa. When do we go get the divorce certificate?"

If she still had any hope of saving their marriage when he first mentioned divorce, it had all disappeared the moment Elise showed up. Now, she just wanted to get as far away from him as possible.

Rhett looked her straight in the eyes and paused before answering,

"I'll have my lawyer notify you."

Kelsey nodded.

"I understand."

She looked like she had accepted everything and was ready to move on. Without another word, she walked past Rhett and headed for the door.

Rhett's eyes darkened, and he suddenly stopped her.

"I said, you can only go see Dexter when Elise is okay."

Kelsey stopped and pursed her lips. Without turning around, she explained,

"I'm not going to see him."

Rhett put one hand in his suit pocket and walked up behind her.

"Where are you going?"

Feeling the pressure of his presence behind her getting closer, Kelsey suddenly felt a little defiant.

"Do I need to report to Mr. Clark where I'm going?"

Since they were getting divorced, he had no right to control her anymore.

Rhett was stunned for a moment, then looked at her back with a sharp gaze before returning to his usual cold attitude.

"Do whatever you want."

He brushed past her without looking at her again.

Kelsey didn't really know where to go.

She just wanted to get away from Rhett's suffocating presence.

She wandered aimlessly through the hospital, her mind filled with thoughts about Dexter.

Rhett had promised to cover Dexter's remaining medical expenses, so even though Dexter had cheated on her, she had no right to complain.

Compared to all these real-life problems, her feelings suddenly felt so small and useless.

Lost in thought, Kelsey didn't notice the man in the wheelchair ahead of her.

She had walked into a path in the hospital's backyard. The road was narrow, and as they passed each other, she accidentally bumped into his wheelchair.

Bang!

"Sorry!" She snapped out of it and quickly apologized. "Did I hit you?"

"I'm fine, don't worry." The man's gentle voice instantly calmed her.

The man in the wheelchair had a handsome face, delicate features, and a warm smile. There was a bit of worry in his eyes as he looked at her.

"You don't look so well. Is something bothering you?"

Kelsey shook her head, but then she suddenly realized that his face was becoming blurry, like there were two of him.

Her body swayed. The side effects of the blood draw were just now kicking in. Her vision went black—and she fainted.

...

When she opened her eyes again, she was lying in a hospital room.

The man in the wheelchair was gone. Rhett was standing beside her.

Kelsey felt dizzy and tried to sit up.

"What happened to me?"

She wasn't fully awake and didn't notice the dark look on Rhett's face.

As soon as she opened her eyes, she heard his low voice near her ear.

"You're pregnant."

His tone was firm and certain.

Rhett placed a blood test report in front of her.

"After you had your blood drawn, I had someone send a sample for testing."

Kelsey stared at the medical report in front of her, her pupils trembling. She couldn't say a single word.

The man's expression was hard to read as he repeated,

"You're pregnant."

The sunlight was clear and bright, and the curtains swayed gently in the breeze. A man stood by the bed, blocking most of the light. His tall figure cast a long shadow that made him look even more imposing.

Kelsey was completely covered by his shadow. Her hands gripped the sheets as she slowly woke up. "I'm pregnant," she murmured, staring at her belly, which was covered by a white sheet. There were no signs of movement, but she could feel it—there was life growing inside her.

Kelsey's dull eyes slowly began to shine with joy.

She had only been guessing earlier, rushing out of the house too quickly to even check the test results. She never expected that she was actually pregnant...

The happiness on her face was obvious, but Rhett lit a cigarette and took a puff. "You're happy?" he asked.

Kelsey looked up. His face was hidden behind the white smoke. The shadows made his features look even colder, more distant, and impossible to reach. The joy on her face froze bit by bit. "Mr. Clark…"

She tightened her grip on the sheets, starting to feel nervous. She had forgotten.

She had forgotten that Rhett was going to divorce her. That Elise was pregnant with his child. And that she had only ever been a tool for them to deal with their twisted love-hate mess. How could he possibly want her to have this baby?

Rhett noticed every change in her expression. He flicked the ash from his cigarette and leaned lazily against the back of the chair. "I'm sorry."

Just two words, and it felt like she had no choice but to give up her child.

Kelsey shook her head, her face pale. "You don't need to apologize… After our divorce, we'll be strangers."

She looked up. "This child has nothing to do with you. I promise I won't appear in front of you again after the divorce. Is that okay?"

Rhett frowned. "You want to keep it?"

Kelsey pressed her lips together. Her eyes trembled. Before she could answer, the man sneered, "Setting aside the impact this child will have on the Clark family, you're already struggling to take care of Dexter. Even if you have the baby, how are you going to raise it?"

His words were brutally realistic.

Kelsey couldn't say anything for a moment. She clenched her fists. "I'll find a way to take care of it myself. I won't cause you any trouble…"

"You're causing trouble for yourself."

Rhett stubbed out his cigarette and stood up. "There's no need to make each other suffer over something that hasn't even taken shape yet. Don't you think so?"

Kelsey's lips turned white, and her nails dug deep into her palms.

She said nothing, and Rhett didn't bother to wait. He casually picked up his suit jacket and said, "Rest well. I'll handle the rest."

After that, he walked straight out of the hospital room.

The door closed.

Kelsey shut her eyes.

The ringing in her ears couldn't compare to what Rhett had just said. The way he called their baby a "thing" made her chest feel hollow and heavy. The hope she had been clinging to was fading away, replaced by emptiness.

The next day, Kelsey was finally allowed to visit Dexter. Rhett hadn't come back since that day, but he had arranged for someone to watch over her.

Inside the hospital room, Dexter was asleep. His face looked even worse than a few days ago, with several visible bruises.

Kelsey's heart ached. She gently closed the door and sat beside his bed, quietly watching him sleep. Her eyes were slightly red.

"I'm sorry," Kelsey whispered. "I didn't protect you."

They had once been a happy family. Kelsey used to be a well-known princess in their circle. But on the day of her coming-of-age ceremony, her parents died in a plane crash on their way home.

In one night, they went from heaven to hell.

In the years that followed, Kelsey and Dexter experienced all kinds of hardships. The girl who once played piano and danced ballet ended up struggling just to afford college tuition.

Now, with Dexter's illness, Kelsey finally realized how important the money she used to ignore really was.

Dexter frowned and slowly woke up. "Sis…" He looked like he was in pain and rubbed his forehead. With Kelsey's help, he sat up and asked, "How long have I been asleep?" Then, like something suddenly hit him, he grabbed her hand. "Where's Rhett? Where is he now?"

Seeing how upset he looked, Kelsey quickly tried to calm him down. "Don't worry, you just woke up…"

"Sis!" Dexter interrupted, "That guy's keeping a celebrity outside and even got her pregnant!"

He was furious. "How could he do that to you?!"

Kelsey's expression turned dark. She grabbed his shoulders and gently pushed him back down. "This isn't your business. Just focus on getting better and wait for the doctor to arrange your surgery. You don't need to worry about anything else."

Dexter's eyes turned red, like a little beast who was angry but helpless. He looked at her calm and exhausted face, and all his energy seemed to vanish. He hugged her tightly and asked in a low voice, "...Is he giving you a hard time?"

Kelsey sighed and patted his back. "I know you're mad, but you shouldn't have hit Elise."

Elise was Rhett's lover. If it wasn't for the fact that she also had the Bombay blood type and could donate blood to Elise, Rhett probably wouldn't have let Dexter go.

Dexter clenched his fists and lowered his voice. "I didn't hit her… I wanted to hit Rhett, but she got in the way and I accidentally hurt her…"

Then he asked, "Is her baby okay?"

Before Kelsey could answer, Dexter suddenly spat out, "Any homewrecker who ruins someone else's marriage deserves it, even if she has a miscarriage!"

Kelsey's heart stopped for a second.

She let go of Dexter, rubbed his head, and forced a smile. "Anyway, just focus on getting better. Don't make your sister worry anymore, okay?"

Dexter looked at her tired face and delicate features. His throat moved up and down. In the end, he turned away with red eyes and said, "Okay. I got it."

The day Rhett finally came to see her, Kelsey was standing on the balcony, lost in thought as she stared at the skyscrapers in the distance.

When Rhett walked in, this was what he saw:

A slender woman with her back to him, standing by the window. Her long hair flowed in the wind. Her pale and fragile hands gripped the railing tightly, like a stronger gust of wind could blow her away.

His pupils shrank, and he immediately rushed over. Without hesitation, he picked her up.

Kelsey was shocked. "What are you doing?"

She felt weightless for a second. Then, she looked straight into Rhett's furious eyes.

"Kelsey, do you want to die?"
