"The house is infested?" Esther asked, flabbergasted. It had been perfectly fine when she left that morning.
"All of a sudden? By what?"
Sullivan shrugged. "Termites or something. Don't worry—we've moved to a new place until they can be dealt with."
He paused, then added, "There was also a leak on the second floor."
"A leak?" Esther exclaimed. "...Oh, my painting!"
"Ah," Sullivan frowned. "I'll have Ms. Reid move it."
Esther sighed, leaning into her seat. "I hope it didn't get wet."
"Don't worry," Sullivan assured her. "I'm sure it didn't."
Esther didn't reply. She turned her gaze to the streets flashing past. If the canvas was ruined, she'd have to start all over again. Then again, she hadn't made much progress yet. Her vision blurred, and her eyes fluttered shut. She had been so anxious these past few days that she barely had time to rest. Maybe she could just relax for a moment...
