Sullivan woke up feeling refreshed. Images of Esther's flushed face flashed through his mind—her eyes fluttering shut as he kissed her, her hands fumbling with his buttons. A slow grin tugged at his lips. Despite her reaction afterward, he was certain she had enjoyed the kiss just as much as he had.
He turned his head, glancing at the empty space beside him.
He sighed.
Oh, to wake up with her in my arms.
With another sigh, he got up. He had to check on Bloom.
Half an hour later, he stepped into her room and found her already dressed in her school uniform. He frowned, momentarily thrown off.
She looked up from the book in her hand and asked dryly, "Did you tell the guards not to let me go to school anymore?"
Sullivan frowned. "Baby, after what happened, it makes sense for you to stay home."
"Oh? And why's that?" she asked, raising her wrist to show him the emergency watch strapped to it.
