Chapter four

 Cynthia sat on the couch in the sitting room playing a game on her phone and then she paused, smiling while remembering what Caleb said to her earlier today at school. "How can he love me? We just became friends" Cynthia said to herself as her elder brother and the second son of the family Jephta overheard her while walking into the sitting room and looking at her sarcastically. "Ugh! Who loves you?" Jephta asked as Cynthia replied "mind your business" "wow! I should mind my business, you are sitting here doing absolutely nothing and telling yourself that he loves you, a boy loves you and then your smiling aimlessly!" Jephta said annoyingly. "Jephta Stop it! Just leave me alone okay! You chase almost all the girls in this area and you are not even ashamed of trying to stop me from dating someone that loves me." Cynthia replied as she continued playing games on her phone. "The thing is that…" Jephta began as he sat close to her trying the big brother advice. "We guys are just like that, we play girls just for our own pleasure and not because we actually love them and whoever you think loves you, is just playing you and doesn't really love you. He's probably looking for what to get from you!" Jephta said calmly as Cynthia replied without hesitation and more aggressively "do you really think that all guys are like you? You are a playboy, a cheat and a womanizer and I know for a fact that all guys are not like you and please do not let me compare you with our eldest brother Gideon who is a total opposite of you. You know what I wasn't going to say yes to this guy who just asked me out today at school but because of you, I will and I'll prove you that not everybody is like you. Jerk!" Cynthia concluded as she stormed off to her room leaving her brother Jephta speechless and ashamed in the sitting room.

The following day at school, Caleb walked to Cynthia who was listening to music while writing a book in the classroom during break period. "Hay Cynthia, how are you doing?" Caleb said as he sat beside her. "Hey Caleb, I'm good and you?" Cynthia replied as Caleb smiled and said "I'm good. So have you considered my proposal? Like the dating proposal." "Oh that? Yh! I have." Cynthia replied smiling "so what's your answer!" Caleb said looking tensed but brushing it up with a cold smile. "Hmm, it's a yes! But promise me that I won't get into trouble." Cynthia said smiling as Caleb answered saying "yes! I promise. I will do my best to make you happy and trust me I never disappoint! Thanks for accepting me Cynthia. I love you." Caleb concluded as he slowly moved closer to Cynthia and kissed her. "ooohhhh!" someone at the back of the class shouted "Caleb just kissed Cynthia" "you don't mean it!" Kelvin said as he angrily walked out of the class. While everyone else in the class were hailing Caleb and Cynthia for their new relationship, Cynthia felt awkward after Kelvin angrily walked out of the class, was he angry with her for telling him all the bad stuffs about Caleb and his family and then dating Caleb after everything? Fortunately for Cynthia, Elena and Dreaster were not in the class when Caleb kissed her but does that mean the news won't get to their ears?

Cynthia was confused, she wanted the relationship between her and Caleb to be a secret but with the public kiss, it wasn't going to be possible and worst of all, Kelvin, Elena Dreaster. She only just got to know that Kelvin was in love with her and that was the only reason he came to talk to her when she was extremely sad some few days ago. For Dreaster and Elena, they wouldn't stand seeing her with Caleb and would do anything to frustrate her. For Cynthia, she would have thought about all of these before saying yes to Caleb but Caleb had promised that he wouldn't let anything go wrong in the relationship and that was her only hope. "Cynthia!" Caleb said extremely loudly. "What!" Cynthia replied, she had just broke out of thoughts "I have been calling your name since, what are you thinking about? You just paused and you were lost in thoughts the moment Kelvin walked out of the class." Caleb said looking really worried. "Yh, I was wondering why he angrily walked out of the class when everyone was hailing us." Cynthia replied looking terrified and worried. "Well he's obviously jealous of us. Just forget about him and focus on me" Caleb concluded as he held Cynthia's soft hands.

Soon, the break period was over as the students retreated into the classroom including Elena and Dreaster as the teacher walked into the classroom. After a long period of the boring class, the teacher walks out leaving the students with home work as the student continue with what they were doing before the class began. Cynthia walked out of the classroom to the female toilet to wash her face, she was feeling dizzy and sick all of a sudden, she starred at herself on the mirror for a while and just when she was about to leave, she ran into Dreaster and Elena just like the other day and then, they forcefully stopped her holding her arms tightly. "Didn't I warn you to stay away from my brother?" Dreaster asked furiously as she slapped Cynthia. "How dare you slap me" Cynthia replied panting and tensed as she quickly placed her hand on the left side of her face were dreaster had just slapped. "I hope you enjoyed the kiss my brother gave you! I told you that I will deal with you if you don't stay away from my brother and trust me, this is only the beginning." Dreaster said as she stormed off along with dreaster.

Cynthia stood there even more devastated as she couldn't even confront dreaster the way she would have on a normal day, she felt weak and frustrated, she only started dating Caleb and she is already facing unnecessary problem both with Kelvin and Dreaster. Is dating Caleb worth the drama or should she just end it once and for all? After all, there is no guarantee that the relationship would last or lead to marriage. Cynthia kept on wondering what to do to end the drama as she slowly walked out of the rest room. She was lost in thought while walking down the hallway, this time around, she bumped into Kelvin. They both stopped and starred into each other's eyes, then Cynthia was about to walk away as Kelvin quickly held her hand and pulled her back. "Hey!" Cynthia exclaimed. She looked weaker and frustrated. "What is the problem with you Cynthia? I was there for you when you needed someone, when you were lonely and had no one to talk to. You told me about Caleb and his evil family and now you left me and started dating the very guy you claimed you hated! Why would you do that?" Kelvin said in a very emotional tone as Cynthia reluctantly replied "Caleb is not like that and I thought he was evil like his family but he is nothing like that and besides, he was the one who begged his mum on by behalf to release my dad from jail and he did it because he loved me. You never asked me out but then you are mad at me for dating someone who did so much for me. So tell me, what did you do for me?" Cynthia asked as Kelvin could not reply. He was devastated as Cynthia's question sounded like a betrayal to him. Cynthia walked away leaving Kelvin standing there lost in thoughts and sad.

Cynthia was looking for Caleb in the school premises, her mind was made up. She was going to end her relationship with Caleb. They only started dating and she's already going through emotional pain and opposition and she wasn't ready to keep up with such rubbish as she had thought. Soon she saw Caleb in the basketball court. He seemed really good at the sport as he had scored many times for his team. Cynthia didn't realize when she smiled while watching Caleb playing the basketball. She moved closer to the court but couldn't call him because he was busy and she didn't want to disturb him so she stood there watching the game with other student. Soon, Caleb was about to score another goal not until he saw Cynthia crying. The moment he saw her, he dropped the ball and ran out of the basketball court to meet Cynthia. The rest of the basketball players were screaming at him for abandoning the game all of a sudden but Caleb didn't care, all he wanted to do was to meet him love. "Hey Cynthia, I didn't know you were here but I saw you crying. Why are you crying?" Caleb said panting from the sport as he held her hand. "Nothing, ah.. nothing. I'm just surprised that you left the basketball just to come and see me. That's incredible." Cynthia said using her right hand fingers to wipe the tears on her face. "Hop on! Climb my back" Caleb demanded. "What?" Cynthia asked confusingly. "Climb my back. I'll take you home while we talk. You don't look fine." Caleb said as he grabbed Cynthia laps and carried her on his back and walked away while everyone around including the basketball players that were watching them smiled and admired the way Caleb carried her on his back. "What exactly happened Cynthia?" Caleb asked walking out of the school. "Your sister slapped me and insulted me and it really got me annoyed but I didn't know what to do" Cynthia said sobbing. Caleb frowned and paused for a while then continued "we are at the junction, let's take a taxi" Caleb said as he dropped Cynthia from his back and stopped a taxi. "Let's get in." Caleb said as he entered into the taxi with Cynthia. "Are you just going to brush up what I just told you?" Cynthia asked looking even more confused. "Look Cynthia, tomorrow is my birthday and I want us to go shopping right now, we will talk about that later and I will deal with my sister so just trust me and don't worry" Caleb replied calmly trying to hide his actual feeling.

 Soon, they approached a luxurious fashion house as they came out of the taxi and paid the taxi driver. Caleb and Cynthia walked into the fashion house. "My father owns this fashion house and in no time, it would be mine because my dad wants me to manage it for him while he focuses on bigger companies." Caleb said as he called for one of the staffs in the fashion house. "Good evening sir, you are welcome. Is there anything you want?" the female staff asked. "Yh tomorrow is my 18th birthday and it's going to be a huge party." Caleb replied. Caleb asked for the best dresses for himself and Cynthia as they both picked the one they liked and left the fashion house. Cynthia was happy that Caleb just bought her an expensive dress one she couldn't afford on her own but still wondered why Caleb didn't say much about what she had told him. She wanted to breakup with him but was considering his feelings. She didn't want to do anything to hurt him and so she made up her mid to bear with him not caring about dreaster, Elena or even Kelvin. She was going to fight against anyone who tried to come in between them. Caleb pecked Cynthia and escorted her to her house. "You and I will dance tomorrow at my birthday party. It's going to be so much fun" Caleb said smiling and holding her hand as Cynthia replied coldly. "Sure!" "Promise you will come tomorrow." Caleb demanded. "Well, I really want to come but I'm scared. Your sister and your mum will never accept me. I don't want problem" Cynthia said concerned as Caleb replied "it's my birthday and you are my girlfriend. Don't be scared nothing bad can happen okay? Come with a gift." "Alright, I will get going" Cynthia reluctantly smiled and walked away leaving Caleb standing there and watching her in admiration as she entered into her house waving at him.
