Chapter 25:The Cave of Remnants
Tag Team & Two Fronts
The ghost knight stepped forward, his armor rusted and torn, his body riddled with arrows — a testament to the violent betrayal that once ended his life. His glowing blue eyes fixated on the group.
Captain Elara took a stance beside Synoh, her hand trembling slightly but her voice firm.
"Elara... are you—" Synoh began, noticing she had held his arm earlier.
She glanced at him briefly. "I'm fine. Just… don't let your guard down. Something's not right."
The ghost army let out an otherworldly cry as they stormed forward. Captain Elara and Synoh charged, slashing together in sync. The way they moved was almost rehearsed — Elara's elemental slashes blending with Synoh's raw strength and precise strikes.
Fel's voice rang in Synoh's head:
> "This ghost knight… he's too sluggish, uncoordinated. This isn't his real power. Something's… off."
Synoh gritted his teeth. "Then something or someone's controlling them."
Back at the village, screams pierced the night.
"Hold the line!" Captain Alistair shouted. Lux unleashed a flash of light magic, searing through one of the spectral soldiers, making it vanish in a wail of pain. Ghosts poured out from the mist, overwhelming the village gates.
Villagers cried out, torn between relief and horror.
"That's… my husband…" one woman sobbed, falling to her knees as the ghost of her loved one passed by her with dead, empty eyes.
Jack, Vice-Captain of Division 7, clashed blades with another ghost and shouted to Lux, "We can't hold this forever!"
Lux nodded. "Just a bit more. Elara's team will figure it out… I trust them."
Back in the cave, Captain Elara and Synoh managed to stagger the ghost knight. He knelt for a moment, but then rose again unnaturally, as if puppeted.
Captain Elara narrowed her eyes. "He's being forced… Look at the strings of light on his limbs!"
Synoh's eyes widened. "You're right… He's not moving on his own."
Elara looked around the eerie throne room. "Something is tethering these souls here. This isn't just a haunting—it's a curse."
Suddenly, the ghost knight let out a shriek, and a dark aura burst from his body, forming a spectral chain that reached deep into the grave behind the throne.
Captain Elara gripped her sword tighter. "If we don't break the curse at the source… the village will fall."
