Chapter 29 : “Coffee, Codes, and Confessions”

Zara hated how easy it was to talk to Noah.

He was smart, sarcastic, and annoyingly... gentle. Like he was always reading the room but still making it better. Even his stupid hoodie smelled like expensive cinnamon.

They met again at the café. Totally accidental. (Okay, fine. Maybe she accidentally got there early. Whatever.)

"Back again?" he said with a smirk.

"I work here," Zara lied.

"You don't."

She sipped her drink. "It was worth a shot."

---

Ten minutes later...

They were already arguing about AI ethics over oat lattes.

"So you believe dating apps can actually predict love?" Zara asked, raising a brow.

Noah leaned in. "Not predict. Suggest. There's a difference."

She smirked. "Spoken like a man who's never been ghosted after five days of 'good vibes' and a Spotify playlist exchange."

He laughed. "Fair. But I built the system. I know its flaws."

Zara's eyes narrowed. "Then why are you on HeartMatch?"

Noah paused.

"…Maybe I was looking for a bug."

She raised an eyebrow.

"Or," he added, "maybe I just wanted to test it on someone who wouldn't fake anything."

"…Me?"

He grinned. "You're basically an honesty grenade."

She stared.

Then—"That might be the weirdest compliment I've ever gotten."

---

Across town…

Leo was pacing.

Tessa watched him from behind her laptop.

"Let me guess," she said. "You're stalking Zara's Instagram story to see if Noah's in the background again."

Leo scoffed. "I am not stalking. I'm... investigating."

Tessa: "Wow. The jealousy is screaming."

Leo flopped onto the couch. "She laughs around him. The loud kind. The real kind."

Tessa closed her laptop. "Then stop sulking and tell her how you feel."

Leo: "I can't. Timing's off. There's too much going on. The app, the glitches, the whole—whatever Noah is."

Tessa sighed. "Leo... you wait too long, someone else presses send."

---

Back at the café...

Zara's phone buzzed. A notification from the app.

> Your compatibility with NOAH just spiked to 89%

She froze.

Noah noticed. "Everything okay?"

She slowly turned her screen to him. "You seeing this?"

He looked. Blinked. "That… shouldn't happen."

Zara whispered, "You didn't do this?"

He shook his head. "No. And if that spike is real, someone's playing with the algorithm."

Zara: "Or watching us."

They locked eyes.

Noah: "You ever get the feeling we're all part of something… bigger?"

Zara: "Yeah. And I don't like being the unknowing main character."

Bonus Scene:

At HeartMatch HQ, a screen lit up.

Two names blinked:

> NOAH RIVERA — Access: Limited

ZARA EVANS — Target: Active

A message appeared:

> They're bonding faster than expected.

Initiate fail-safe?

Another voice replied:

> No. Let them fall. It makes the crash more entertaining.
