Chapter 11: Ogryn Squad (Seeking Follow-Up Reads)
Fend Family, Howard's private reception room.
The newly instated Earl, who had inherited the headship of the family and all its assets, set aside all his affairs and proactively raised his glass.
"Nimrod, thank you for your help this time."
Nimrod raised his glass and clinked it against Howard's.
"Nimrod, your reputation has soared. The top gold-medal lawyer of the hive city was defeated by you in court. I think you should abandon the factories. The Martian credits earned from one noble case exceed all your profits in the dome."
"More importantly, being a lawyer is one of the highest-status professions a hive dweller can pursue, even allowing for a very high political position in the upper echelons of the hive city."
"I have no interest in being a lawyer long-term."
Nimrod knew that lawyers and other legal professionals were the most numerous politicians in peacetime, but Voss-Toria, and even the entire galaxy, would soon usher in the magnificent era of the "Great Crusade."
Now that his "Lawyer" acting was complete, he wouldn't bother accumulating political capital. The "Savage's" plan to flip the table and start a violent revolution was already brewing in his mind.
As for Howard, through their interactions during this time, he greatly admired the sixteen-year-old noble's abilities and magnanimity.
"In that case, I won't force you. Follow me to the vault and choose your reward."
Howard put down his glass, stood up, and led Nimrod away.
Walking across the gleaming red brick floor, Howard noticed that Nimrod's gaze didn't linger for even a moment on the luxurious decorations, the valuable murals, or the exquisite furnishings.
He remained as calm as ever, following behind him at a steady pace.
A moment later, a cogitator appeared before them, with something resembling a human in front of its panel.
It was a servitor, an automated device created by removing parts of a human brain and then modifying it.
Nimrod realized it wasn't an ordinary servitor, but a sentinel.
"This was a gift from Sage Kivior to our ancestor when the Fend family was founded. Only family blood can activate it."
"The well-crafted power armor named after him that I wear was also a gift from that time."
Nimrod nodded. [The Fend family has very close ties with the oilers!]
The sentinel turned its head towards the two of them. An amber iris lit up in one of its eye sockets.
Accompanied by a piercing shriek, it opened its jaw.
Its jaw was much wider than a normal human's, and its mouth was filled with sharp metal fangs.
The fangs pierced Howard's skin, embedding themselves in his flesh. A few drops of dark red blood flowed into the sentinel's throat.
Then, the whirring of servo-motors starting and mechanical pumps turning sounded, and the cogitator's video screen flickered continuously.
The heavy metal gate swung open with a rumble. Nimrod followed Fend into the Fend family's vault. His superhuman vision took in the five hundred and thirteen display cases within the two thousand three hundred square meter vault.
He walked up to a display case. Howard introduced it to him.
"This stone is solid, yet it seems to contain a turbulent sea. Because of this characteristic, it was collected by the sixth head of the family."
"It comes from a world covered in oceans, a planet also in the Voss-Toria system, named Sea Symphony by Sage Kivior."
"When seawater strikes this stone, it emits a shriek like that of a siren."
Nimrod nodded. The stone before him was called Siren Stone on the Blasphemy Slate and was the main ingredient for the Sequence 9 "Sailor" potion.
After completely digesting the "Lawyer" potion, he had returned to the "Country of Disorder" and found that his Primordial Matter authority hadn't increased, but six new Sequence 9 potion formulas had appeared on the slate. "Sailor" was one of them, and he had also confirmed that the chainsword was an auxiliary ingredient for "Warrior."
However, Nimrod didn't plan to choose the Siren Stone. "Sailor" had no room to develop in Voss-Toria, which lacked a sea, and one of the main ingredients listed on the Blasphemy Slate was also impossible to find.
He continued forward, seeing more than a dozen potion ingredients, and finally stopped before a round black stone.
Howard continued his introduction: "This stone was discovered on one of Voss-Toria's moons. Sage Kivior once said that the moon is very similar to Terra's moon in the Sol system, the homeworld of humanity."
"I'll take this one."
This stone, called Moonstone, was the main ingredient for the "Sleepless" pathway, and Nimrod had already gathered the other potion ingredients.
After obtaining the Moonstone, Nimrod had collected all the potion ingredients needed for "Sleepless."
Returning to the Magneto Steelworks, he placed the Moonstone in a long, narrow silver box and then sent it to the "Country of Disorder."
At this moment, the short-range vox-caster rang, and Rolfslev's excited voice came through.
"Boss, the largest Lung Spider in the underhive, the one called the Black Widow, has been found!"
The boss always rewarded merit. This time, he would be able to drink the finest Lhas-Felt again.
"Wait for me in the control room."
A moment later, Nimrod arrived at the control room. Besides Rolfslev, he also saw a brown-skinned boy with blue eyes, looking about eight or nine years old.
The boy's gaze towards Nimrod was full of admiration and worship.
"Boss, he's the one who found the Black Widow."
The thought of taking all the credit only existed in Rolfslev's mind for a few seconds before he suppressed it.
The boss seemed to know what everyone was thinking. He didn't want to try deceiving the wise and mighty boss.
"Boss, I'm Bukayo."
The boy suppressed his excitement and smoothly introduced himself to the boss.
"Very good, you did well. Now lead the way. I want to see this big guy."
"Yes, boss."
Bukayo led the way. Nimrod also brought fifty men and set off towards the Lung Spider's nest.
There were two rat-catching squads in the group. They had developed good skills in the process of hunting giant rats. Today, they were going to hunt the most terrifying predator in the area surrounding the dome.
After the group traveled four kilometers along dripping metal pipes, Nimrod's ears twitched.
About a kilometer behind them, a group of people were following their winding path, always staying behind.
[They're coming for me.]
After traveling a bit further, at a relatively open fork in the road, Nimrod glanced to the side and clearly saw the people following behind.
The most noticeable were five tall, burly men, all over two and a half meters tall, making the surrounding people look unusually short. The tallest of them was three meters tall.
Then, Nimrod's attention was drawn to the two people leading the way for the Ogryn squad. There was a sense of familiarity about them.
He searched his memory and immediately locked onto the two people's identities.
[Dimitrov's men.]
[Hmm? The Arbitrator wouldn't be foolish enough to actively send people to deal with me, and Ogryns aren't something he has the ability to command.]
[The Ogryns were sent by Estupinian. Good, they're delivering the main ingredient for "Savage" right to my door.]
Nimrod didn't attack immediately. He whispered,
"Bukayo, take me to the nearest narrow passage."
The two men behind Nimrod were stunned upon hearing this, but Bukayo reacted quickly. He covered his mouth with his left hand.
"Yes, boss."
The boy gripped the dagger in his right hand, his steps steady, not revealing the slightest abnormality.
Two kilometers away from the dim passage, he sensed the passage, which was only three point six meters in diameter.
After stepping into the passage and traveling three hundred and eighty meters, Nimrod issued a low command.
"Lights out! Spread out to the sides!"
The elite thugs who had grown during the conquest of the Hantexi Dome reacted instantly, spreading out to the sides and leaning against the metal walls.
At the same time, gunshots rang out.
