Mystery

Veronica stared at what she thought was red wine in the fancy glasses that had been set out in the dining hall.

Alex and Charles were preparing for the rest of their family to return home and the girl found herself lost in her thoughts.

She didn't sleep well last night and now she felt like she had to impress Alex' family , but that was the least of her problems.

As she stood by a window in the dining hall staring at the trees outside , she found herself wondering if Alex would ever hurt her.

In her nightmare last night Alex had seemed threatening and there had been so men bodied on the ground that were made bloody by his sword.

She turned around and stared at him as he set knives and forks on the tables.

She remembered what he said about humans being ' tasty ' and she immediately felt sick.

She stared at the floor as she realized that something stranger that she thought was going on with Alex.

" Veronica , are you ok ? " Alex asked , his voice sounded genuinely concerned.

The girl nodded.

" I'm fine. I'm just going to go back to my room." She said and she walked off without looking directly at him.

She went to her room, closed the door and layed in bed just thinking about all the things that had happened since she left the airport.

' Am I overreacting? ' She wondered and she was about to spend the next few hours questioning her choices to move to this town, but her phone began to ring , pulling her from her anxiety.

She got up and took her phone of a nightstand that was beside her bed.

" Heyyyy , Ver ." Tiffany answered the phone cheerily.

" Hey , Tiffany. What are you up to ? Are you feeling better now ?" Veronica asked and she could hear Jess' voice in the background as he talked to Tiffany in a whisper.

She could hear him kissing Tiffany.

" Yea , I'm feeling better. " Tiffany said and Veronica felt happy, she smiled.

" I'm glad the iconic couple is back together. " Veronica said and Tiffany laughed.

" You know we've been trying to set you up with that guy , right ? " Jess said as he took the phone from Tiffany and Veronica furrowed her brows.

" What, guy ? " Veronica asked and Jess smirked.

" The guy who's everyone's type. " Jess said and Veronica smiled.

She shook her head at the thought.

" Is he paying you to be his wingman ? " Veronica asked , rolling her eyes.

" Nah , I'm just trying to help you out." Jess said and Veronica laughed.

" I'm kinda already seeing someone." Veronica said shyly and Tiffany and Jess started cheering her on at the same time.

" Ooooh." They said and Veronica giggled.

" Is he hot ?" Tiffany asked and right as Veronica was about to answer Alex walked right through her bedroom door .

" I think I'll talk to you guys about this later. I have something I need to do." Veronica said and Alex glared at her , giving her a playful smirk.

" Ok , bye. " The couple on the other end of the call said and they hung up.

Veronica placed her phone down beside her on the bed.

Alex walked up to her , bending over so their faces were only inches apart.

" You're friends make a passionate couple , don't they ?" Alex asked and the tip of his nose touched Veronica's.

" I guess." The girl replied backing away.

" What if we started acting more like them ?" Alex asked , moving closer to her and holding the back of her head gently.

He kissed her softly.

She kissed him back but they she remembered the nightmare she had last night again.

She pushed him away.

" We need to talk about something. " She said and he stood up straight.

" What is it , Princess ?" Alex asked and she started fidgeting with her hands.

" Y- you won't hurt me right ? " She asked , as fear consumed her.

" You are a precious gift to the world. Why would I hurt you ? " Alex asked , seeming genuinely confused.

Alex stared at her.

" I should even be touching you with my filthy hands." Alex said then he left the room , walking right through the door in silence.

Her eyes widened.

' What does he mean ?' Veronica wondered but then she decided that instead of asking for answers about everything in this town she'd start to seek out the truth herself.

She took up her phone and started to do her own research about this town and the people in it.

She read the articles that popped up on there phone.

' Grim Haven is a town filled with warm welcoming people who enjoy making things interesting. Priscilla Wellington is a wealthy tourist who posted a lot of photos praising the town for its beauty. '

' Georgina Herald was a beautiful singer , who had moved to this town to start over for a better life. '

' Grim Haven is a beautiful town filled with pleasant surprises , fun-loving people and pranksters. '

' FUCK ! Not one of these articles are actually telling people the truth about the Monsters in the forest or the fact that students died recently under strange circumstances and it wasn't a prank. ' Veronica thought.

"These news papers really know how to sell lies and bullshit." She remarked , then she screenshotted the articles and closed her tabs.

She curled up in her bed and fell asleep right there.

All the investigating and researching had worn her out.

Alex was still in the dining hall doing everything he could to make sure things looked perfect.

Everyone else thought it was going to be a normal dinner but to him , he was preparing to introduce the girl he loved to his family.

" I wish our butlers were here." Alex complained , frustratedly and Charles smiled.

" Mom, gave them a break because she says you're spoiled and ungrateful. " Charles told Alex with a grin.

" You think this is funny ? Remind me again

Who's stuck here cleaning with me ? " Alex asked and Charles groaned frustratedly , walking away.

"Hey Charles, Where do yout think your going ? " Alex asked his brother ans the younger boy walked off.

" I'm going to my room where I can avoid the consequences of your actions." Charles said bitterly , frowning angrilly and folding his arms across his chest.

He walked away.

Alex got mad , took up a glass of the red liquid and stormed outside , he rested his back on a large tree as he began sipping the red liquid from the glass.

' I wonder when the rest of our family will be back.' Alex thought as he enjoyed his refreshing red drink.

His lips gain a slight color from the drink and he licked them , quickly savoring all the rest of it.

As he stood there looking out into the endless forest before him the wind caressed his fluffy hair.

Veronica was sleeping and there was a strange cranking sound outside her window.

Crack . Crack . CRACK !

Veronica's eyes popped open and she looked around the room frantically.

She stood up and stretched then decided that she had done enough investigating for the day she decided to exit the room instead of looking for the sound.

She walked around the castle, looking for Alex.

She wondered where his room was and as she looked for his , walking through multiple different doors as she went along she came across a large gold double door.

It had a beautiful design of interconnected circles carved onto its golden surface.

The spots where the circles intersected looked like flowers.

Veronica stared at the beautiful door in amazement.

" What the hell could he possibly keep in here ?" Veronica whispered, wondering to herself as she walked towards the door.

She touched it, rubbing her hand over the beautiful pattern then she held the door knobs and pulled it open.

As the door opened a room filled with beautiful dresses and accessories was revealed to her.

She was awestruck by the sight and in the center of it all was a large white dress that had been neatly placed on a mannequin.

The dress had sparkling crystal beads all over it, red beads covered the bottom of the dress and red gems covering the end of each of its sheer sleeves.

She entered the room , walked towards the dress and when she was finally close enough to touch it , she reached out to feel the beads under skin but instead her hand stopped mid air as she noticed someone else's shadow on the floor in the room with her.

" Well aren't you a girl with exquisite taste ? " A woman's voice asked and she turned around to see an older woman with long black hair.

" I - I am sorry. I just got lost because the place is so big." She apologized to the older woman

" Take it." The woman offered , completely ignoring Veronica's apology.

Veronica looked at the woman questioningly.

" The dress you were about to touch is my old wedding dress. I'm Alex' mother. " The woman stated dryly and Veronica nodded at her nervously.

" It's nice to meet you." Veronica said and before she could introduce herself Alex' mom continued.

" Judging by the fact that you're a human girl with ' eyes as beautiful as emeralds ' as Alex said I can assume that you're the blessed virgin, right ?" The older woman asked seriously.

There was a bit of tension in the air as Veronica tried to think of the right words to say to the intimidating woman infront of her.
