Nova in disarray

Nova fell back on the wall and hugged her knees to her chest.

How possible was it for something like this to happen?

It felt like she was in the middle of a nightmare.

At school, she unwittingly glances at graphic novels being read by students sitting nearby, and most of the characters she sees perfectly resemble her reflection in the mirror.

Perhaps transmigration is real.

She stood up and looked in the mirror once more.

This didn't look anything like her.

She was sure that she wasn't hallucinating, in fact, she wished that she was.

She held the two spiralled horns on the side of her head in both hands, and subsequently turned her face from side to side over and over.

Both the physique and the face were those of a boy.

It was strange that she hadn't noticed this transformation until she looked in the mirror.

Maybe her anger towards Orlyssa had clouded her senses.

Was she supposed to live in this body?

Aside from the body being that of a boy, it featured horns. And as far as Nova knew, a person with horns was no longer considered human by society.

In her reality, they were only called human in fiction.

Nova's head began to gradually throb.

It seemed to be caused by overthinking.

If this was something spiritual, she had no power whatsoever to reverse it, no matter how much she racked her brain.

The previous night, while watching the television, she'd seen on the news parents standing in front of microphones, holding up missing-child poster. And there were lots of reports of not only children but also adults missing.

Nova thought these events were somehow tied to what had happened to her body.

Maybe something similar had happened to the missing people, and they were hiding from society out of fear of being ostracized because of their appearances.

Nova sighed, walking out of the bathroom.

This was quite a shock.

Orlyssa and Mr Kaelen were to blame.

This wouldn't have happened without them.

She couldn't also forget how Kaelen betrayed her in the office.

If she's to get revenge on Orlyssa, Kaelen should also be prepared.

At any rate, she had to first figure out how to live with her new appearance, without attracting attention.

In other words, her plan was to disguise herself somehow and blend in with society.

She looked at her bed, and couldn't see her phone.

When Orlyssa shoved her out of the car, the phone was resting on her laps.

It probably tumbled along with her.

Nights are usually deserted, so it was the best time to go and retrieve the phone.

She could have just left it, but it had things that were important to her, like her personal memories captured in photos.

Either way, she had to disguise her horns before going outside, since it was possible that she might encounter someone on the way.

"I think it should be big enough."

She moved to the closet and began rummaging through the clothes, praying that she hadn't thrown it away.

After around thirty seconds, she found it.

An oversized black hoodie.

She quickly put it on, and fortunately, it was very much convenient.

The hoodie was a birthday present from her father.

She hated it when she first received it, but at the moment, it was like her savior.

"Great."

She pulled the hood over her head, covering the horns, and marched towards the door.

Surprisingly, she wasn't scared of the idea of leaving the house at such a time.

Was it because she wasn't in her real body and thus didn't care that much about what might happen to her? Or was it because she trusted this body a bit in terms of strength?

She held the door handle, ready to twist it, but before she could, a knock sounded on the door.

Her body immediately cringed as she leapt back like a spring.

It looked like someone had entered the house.

However, as far as she could remember, she had locked the front door.

This meant that she was so lost in thought that she hadn't heard her parents returning from work.

Since they had a habit of opening her bedroom door without her permission, she took a step forward to the door and silently locked it.

Was it her father or mother?

She crouched and peered through the gap under the door.

High-heels.

It was her mother.

Nova thought she had no shame knocking at her daughter's door almost at midnight. If they couldn't see each other during daytime, then they had no business interacting at night.

She was a student, and she needed to sleep.

Apart from that, Nova was no longer the daughter she knew.

If she were to open this door, she would just flee or try to kill her.

For these reasons, Nova leaned against the door, blocking out her mother's annoying knocks.

She wondered whether she had important information to share.

However, whether the information was important or not, she didn't care.

No one could save her from her situation, so the only option was to relax and collect her thoughts for the sake of her future.

"You'll just give up, mother."

She mused, as she shut her eyes.
