As they stepped out of the inn, they found themselves enveloped by towering trees, their branches stretching towards the sky like skeletal fingers. The snow crunched beneath their boots, the sound echoing through the stillness. The group exchanged uneasy glances, their surroundings unfamiliar and foreboding. Kai's eyes swept over his knights, their faces reflecting a mix of confusion and fear.
One of the knights suddenly called out to Kai, his voice tinged with panic. Kai turned to follow the knight's pointing finger, and for a moment, his world seemed to tilt. The inn they had just exited had vanished, replaced by two trees standing sentinel in its place. The knights whispered to each other, their voices laced with fear and confusion. Even Louis, usually the epitome of calm in the face of danger, wore an expression that was far from composed.
"Okay, let's not panic, everyone," Kai said, his voice firm and reassuring. The trees loomed above them, their canopies so dense that the sky was completely hidden from view. The spaces between the trees offered little respite, as the lack of sunlight made it impossible to gauge their surroundings. As night began to fall, Louis lit a fire using his fire magic, casting flickering shadows on the trees. The warmth and light brought some comfort, but it was clear they were far from safe.
The group fashioned torches from fallen branches, wrapping dry cloth around one end and igniting it with Louis's magic. The flames cast an eerie glow, illuminating the faces of the knights.
"My lord, in which direction should we go?" Louis asked, his eyes seeking guidance. Kai turned to him, his face set in a determined expression. But the truth was, he had no answer. He had never experienced a situation like this before, and the uncertainty was palpable.
As the night wore on, Kai leaned against a tree, using its trunk as support. "It's still night," he said, his voice low and measured. "If we're lucky, the sun will show us the way tomorrow. If not, we'll follow the wind. For now, both are absent." Louis nodded in agreement, and they decided to set up camp. With Louis's fire magic, they managed to stay warm, but the tranquility was short-lived. Snowfall suddenly intensified, and strong winds threatened to extinguish the flames. The night was brutal, but they somehow endured.
For their luck, sun shows them a ray of hope, and by looking at map they knew they have to go towards the south to exit the forest. Sanlow was also inside the forest or maybe eaten by forest, they didn't know.
They started walking towards south, winds were still strong just not like last night, enough make their teeth chattered. Soon hunger caught them, they were walking from last 6 hours without eating anything, water was only way which they got by melting snow. "Hey Jerry. What was your magic again?" Kai asked the baby face knight. He remembered this man from his training time, he was strong but always stayed in cowering position like he was scared of everyone. Later louis told him that he was just shy. Dont talk too much and only speak when its necessary or you asked something. Kai remembered that once Jerry told him about his father's magic related to plants.
"C...Creating plants." He stammered.
For a second everyone stopped and stared at Jerry making him uncomfortable, his shoulder cowering more making him look more smaller than his already small size. His eyes glancing at everyone to know why they stopped and staring at him like that.
"W..what's wrong? " he stammered again.
Louis came forward towering over small knight, Jerry was almost 5'5 but in front of Louis, he looked so small. "Why didn't you say anything about your magic before?" Louis asked calmly.
"N..No one asked." Jerry replied back avoiding everyone's eyes. He didn't know what he did wrong. "Jerry kid. You know we plants also has fruits which we can eat." Louis spoke again still calm. Kai glanced between both of them, these two looked like father-son where father is explaining something to his child, the relationship be wanted to have with his father.
"Y..Yeah we can. B...But why asking me th...tha- oh oh. I am S..Sorry." Jerry realized mid sentence that he could easily provide food to everyone but he never thought about it. He was embarrassed about it. In a second, a green light emitted from his palm and many fruits with just pop out. His magic allowed him to make the parts of plants separately too such as leaves, fruits, flowers etc.
Everyone ate their share and even stored some in their satchels. They had no idea how much they have to walk but with each other's support they carry on walking. Louis who was in front and guiding everyone toward the right direction was alert about their surroundings because danger could come from any direction.
