Bwonsamdi was indeed a sharp-tongued entity, but Galen wouldn't let his words ruffle him. He was a tolerant man, especially towards his subordinates. And besides, Bwonsamdi would eventually fall under his control.
"Old Bwonsamdi, I sense you have a poor impression of me," Galen said slowly, glancing around the main hall. Finding not even a table or chair, he abandoned the idea of sitting. Like the Troll Death God, he was merely a soul floating in the air, so sitting hardly mattered. "Perhaps there's some misunderstanding between us."
"No, no, no, man, I have no misunderstanding about you," Bwonsamdi retorted indifferently. "It doesn't even matter that you're not a troll, or that you're an enemy of the Amani trolls."
"Zul'Gurub was once a holy place for my believers. Zul'Aman also had my temples and priests. I witnessed your ancestors build a fortress in the Arathi Highlands and unite with the elves to defeat the Amani tribe." Perhaps because he rarely had anyone to converse with, Old Bwonsamdi continued, "The hatred between humans and trolls doesn't extend to me. For me, killing trolls is actually good. That year, a lot of troll souls lined up to walk into my palace!"
"Hehe, speaking of which, the war between the Amani tribe and the High Elves lasted for thousands of years, but the number of souls I got wasn't even as much as the decisive battle with you humans. That was the pinnacle of my career. I have to thank your ancestors."
Oh wow, it really opened my mind for Bwonsamdi to think this way, Galen thought. It's only been 2,800 years since you reached the peak of your career. How has your Halls of the Dead become so dilapidated?
"Please remove your rude look!" Bwonsamdi snapped. "Bwonsamdi has just been in some trouble recently!"
Good, troubles are good, Galen mused. I'm just afraid you wouldn't listen otherwise. He had been listening for a while, feeling a bit drowsy, but now he perked up. "Old friend, let's make a deal," he said with a smile. "Don't you like making deals the most? I won't let you suffer any loss!"
"Speak some more, mon."
Upon hearing this, Galen immediately began to enumerate Bwonsamdi's difficulties. He knew the troll god of death's situation all too well.
The history of the trolls is ancient. They're accustomed to worshipping many things they can't comprehend, mostly powerful beasts encountered in ancient times. After absorbing the trolls' faith, these creatures with mysterious powers became immortal. They're called Loa, the gods of the trolls. As the oldest and longest-living Loa, the Troll God of Death finds himself in a very awkward position. It's a name all troll tribes fear, because when their lives end, their souls will face the God of Death, Bwonsamdi.
Bwonsamdi is incredibly powerful, evident from the fact that after Rezan's death, the God-King unhesitatingly chose him to be the High Loa. His strength doesn't rely on the trolls' faith, as shown by his ruined temple. Instead, his power stems from the sheer number of souls under his control. But Bwonsamdi isn't the strongest.
Two colossal figures weigh heavily on Bwonsamdi. The first is Rezan, the Protector of Kings, known to all Zandalari trolls. The devil dragon Loa Rezan is worshipped by the Zandalari royal family and has signed a blood pact with them. He has protected the God-King's lineage for generations and is widely considered the strongest Loa. As a devil dragon, his domain leans towards combat, and his divine power attribute is actually Holy Light, granting his believers the ability to wield Holy Light and powerful combat skills. This directly conflicts with Bwonsamdi's domains of death and annihilation. In truth, Rezan is a minor problem for Galen.
The second major obstacle is truly difficult to overcome... He is Bwonsamdi's superior, Mueh'zala!
Mueh'zala is also known as the God of Death, the Father of Sleep, and the Friend of Time. He is the true god of death for the trolls. In ancient times, Mueh'zala bestowed power upon Bwonsamdi, who was then an ordinary troll. From that moment, Bwonsamdi became his messenger, reaping the souls of trolls for him. Mueh'zala was ambitious, and after pushing Bwonsamdi to the forefront, he receded behind the scenes. According to Galen's knowledge, this individual harbored immense ambitions.
In his previous life, the great chief Vol'jin was gravely wounded in the Battle of the Broken Shore. Mueh'zala secretly whispered in Vol'jin's ear, encouraging him to pass the throne to Queen Sylvanas. Later events proved that Mueh'zala had formed an alliance with the Jailer of the Maw and was orchestrating a shocking conspiracy. However, Bwonsamdi disagreed with his superior's scheme. He believed that the balance between life and death was paramount, and as the god of death, he couldn't break this fragile equilibrium. To this end, Bwonsamdi directly intercepted a large number of troll souls for himself, refusing to hand them over to the conspirator. After the truth was revealed, Bwonsamdi was bound in the otherworld by Mueh'zala.
