Chapter 13: Joy

"Instructor," Bai Yang blurted out, "They say guidance arts are amazing. How exactly do they speed up genetic prime energy cultivation?"

A silver-haired middle-aged warrior chimed in, "Imagine this, Bai Yang. Without guidance arts, using just the 'Five Hearts to Heaven' method, your cells can only absorb energy for five minutes a day before they're full. But with guidance arts? Your cells can handle eight minutes, ten minutes, even an hour of absorption." He looked at the trio. "Get it now?"

Luo Feng nodded sharply. Guidance arts are like making each cell eat more. Cells absorbing cosmic energy was like eating—without guidance arts, you could only digest three bowls of rice; with them, five, ten, or more.

Jiang Nian smiled. "Without guidance arts, let's say your cells absorb 1 unit of energy daily. With them, that could jump to 2, 3, or even more units. One year of training could outpace ten years of ordinary cultivation. That's the magic."

The warriors around them chimed in, eager to promote their gym's benefits. "Our world leader, Hong, created nine top-tier guidance arts. Join our gym, earn enough contribution, and you might learn them," one tempted.

"Instructor," Luo Feng asked, "That silver-haired warrior who left with the Chief Instructor—how did a single look disable us? What ability is that?"

Jiang Nian and the others laughed. "Kid, that was a spiritual practitioner—rarer than warriors. They're the deadliest among us."

"Spiritual practitioner?" Luo Feng startled. He'd read about them online but never grasped their power.

"You'll learn more once you're a warrior," Jiang Nian said. "Alright, assessments done. You three can go home. Provisional certificates take a few days—we'll notify you. Off you go."

"Yes, Instructor."

Luo Feng, Yang Wu, and Bai Yang left the hall, under the watch of armed guards, and stepped out of Moonlight Community.

At the gate, all three wore grins.

"I'm Bai Yang, from Jiangnan First Military Academy. My family's in Yangzhou, so I took the test here," Bai Yang said, shaking their hands. "Glad to meet you both."

Jiangnan First Military Academy—Luo Feng had once dreamed of entering there.

"Luo Feng, and this is Yang Wu. We're from Yian District's Extreme Gym," Luo Feng said.

"You're destined for greatness, Brother Luo. Even our academy's elite class has few warriors," Bai Yang said, eager to befriend a prodigy.

Yang Wu boomed, "Enough talk! We passed on the same day—let's grab lunch and celebrate!"

"Sounds good," Bai Yang agreed.

Laughing, the trio hit a nearby restaurant, feasted, and parted ways.

Luo Feng had sipped some wine at lunch and only remembered to call home on the subway. But with crowds everywhere, he decided to wait. No way I'm announcing I passed the warrior test here—they'll swarm me.

He exited at Zhong'an Road Station, skipping the transfer to Line 1 for some peace.

Time to tell Mom, Dad, and Ah Hua. Excitement surged again. After all these years of struggle, we finally made it.

Standing on the sidewalk, he dialed.

"Hello?" His brother's voice rang out.

"Hey, it's me." Luo Feng grinned. "Guess what? I passed!"

"You kidding? Of course I did! Yeah, yeah. Put Mom on, will you?"

"Hi, Mom—it's Xiao Feng!" He listened to her thrilled voice, eyes stinging. So much effort for this moment. "Mom, you've asked three times—yes, it's real! The certificate arrives in a few days."

"I already ate—lunched with the other passers. Dad? Don't worry, I'll call him next. Yep, got it."

Hanging up, he smiled warmly. Happy, content. All those years of training body technique and swordplay had led to this.

He took a deep breath, steadying himself, and dialed his father's number. Dad, you won't have to work yourself to the bone anymore.

The phone rang steadily as he waited, picturing his father's weary but proud face.
