Yulong woke up pretty late, he was cultivating when he heard screams for help outside.
He instantly jumped out with only his inner garment on. When he saw the fire, he was shocked. When he saw where it went, he was even more shocked, quickly rushing towards his second son's yard.
As a cultivator, he had a few means. He quickly activated a water-shield talisman and used a movement technique to enter the fire and walk into the yard.
In front of the room, he saw a few burning bones. Shocked by this, he thought the worst situation came true, so he quickly entered his sons room… only to find nothing.
"Ah, is he out? Well, well, haha!" thinking his son was save, he was about to leave. Right at that moment, he suddenly felt a cloth strip trying to trip him down. Confused, he moved his leg, only for another one to appear and hold him down.
More and more came, they mainly focused on his two legs, especially the ankles where there were blood veins. The water shield didn't block the cloth, as if this was a matter that couldn't be defended against with the simply water shield.
Yulong panicked a bit and used a different earth shield talisman, his eyes a bit unwilling. All earth-type resources and materials were expensive in the eastern archipelago.
Unfortunately, although the shield activated, it barely slowed down the movement of approaching cloth, affecting them slightly. The cloth couldn't do any harm to him, basically only stopping his movement, but in this fire, such a thing was deadly.
After all, qi refining cultivators are really not much.
He tried many means but couldn't escape no matter what. Panicking more and more, he started screaming for help "COME! SAVE ME! SAVE YOUR LORD! I COMMAND YOU; SAVE ME!"
Some brave and timid servants really thought of saving him, but the moment they came near the fire, they were burned. No one dared to do so anymore. The madam and young lady of the house also saw the situation, the young lady even about to step in.
Lingxu shook his head, telling the cat "bind her, don't let her enter." Unlike his brother, this sister of his was calm and only focused on her things. Ignoring him was a greater mercy than anyone else ever did. As for the mother, she was just a jealous old wretch, now widowed. He didn't have direct need to kill her – as long as she survived, she would live a worse life.
Binding another one at this moment was a bit difficult, but Mingxuo didn't say anything and just followed the order.
When he saw the situation, Lingxu was satisfied and though of something, so he added "Could you whisper something into the ear of my dear father?"
"Um, that's not difficult!" This ability was relatively easy for Mingxuo. Lingxu nodded and said "Repeat the sentence 'This is the spark of Life! Rebirth from Ashes!' in an echo…" thinking that Mingxuo probably didn't know what an echo was, he played a memory for it.
The echo played in Yulong's mind very soon, irritating him at first, but as the situation became worse and worse, he repeated the words too, as if he believed this was a tribulation from heaven for him, like an inner demon tribulation, everything was an illusion, he only had to persist.
Lingxu saw this and shook h is head "He's so gullible…"
Mingxuo asked him curiously "What is this for?"
"It's just a small experiment to see whether the effect of danger makes them believe a lie better."
"Does it?"
"I'm not sure, he's a moron of a father, this was just a small test anyways, it doesn't matter whether it works. At least he stopped screaming so loud, it got annoying."
…
Time passed and the madman Yulong soon died. Lingxu didn't hesitate and ordered Mingxuo to capture the soul while thinking to himself 'Well, this was much easier than I thought. Qi-refining cultivators are truly so weak… it seems I have to learn the art and an escape technique or two, so that I can at least run away properly when I'm attacked.'
He gave one last look at the courtyard before leaving. There wasn't anything that kept him there, there was no reason for him to stay a bit more just to give the last push. He didn't care enough about them to even do that.

The Zhou family residence and their whole world was a little island among the scattered islands of which there are many in the eastern archipelago. Even though it was a small piece, from the size of it, it was large enough to fit a few countries of his past life, which is a huge world for mortals.
He himself knew of this already, so he wasn't shocked when he read the guide. What shocked him truly was that the islands of the eastern archipelago only amount to about 10% of the space, while the rest was sea territory, owned by the beasts mainly.
'Alas, reading a book is better than walking ten thousand steps… or something like that' he said as he was on his way away from the mortal world. There were quite a few scattered cultivation families across the large space, and even a few spiritual veins, but he didn't want to be around people while also having the option to leave, so he quickly left towards the nearest shore.
Although he wanted to cultivate as early as possible, ghost cultivation is part of the demon cultivators, many of them even being evil cultivators. No matter what, most space is owned by immortal cultivators who are natural enemies of demon cultivators, while evil cultivators are hated and hunted by everyone.
The difference between immortal and demon cultivators is that they take a different approach on the matter of immortality, like a question of good and bad. The immortals follow taoist principles of being indifferent and restricting themselves through morals and such, while the demons follow the demonism principle of being free of rules and doing whatever they want.
Evil cultivators on the other hand are those that kill, rob and sacrifice mortals and cultivators alike to reach their goal, ignoring the damage they cause along the way.

Lingxu walked for over a week before he reached a mountain range that was relatively close to the northern shore region of this island. The Zhou residence was already very close to the north, else it would have taken longer. Even if he's a cultivator, he still has many needs. These days, Lingxu hunted food and grilled it in the open, he would wash and clean his clothes by the river and sometimes visited a town nearby to take a break.
He was unwilling to stay too long though. Since he came to this world, he experienced enough to lose the shining glasses that made everything seem exciting – instead, he wanted to see the world of cultivators. Once you lived as a mortal, you will know that nothing a mortal can do is half as interesting as the live of an immortal. Just for the reason that cultivators can walk further and see more of the world.
