Chapter 26 – Reputation Points +5

The sun hadn't even cleared the rooftops when the first letter arrived — a neatly folded envelope stamped with a golden guild seal. Lina opened it with a dagger like it owed her money, and we all crowded around to read.

"'We have received word of your recent success in the Sandreach region. Your party is cordially invited to participate in upcoming mid-tier contract rotations. Rewards scaled per threat level.'"

Kaela blinked. "We're… getting noticed?"

Iris read the letter again, her voice calm. "Our reputation score increased by five. That places us in visibility range for noble patrons and event-based commissions."

Lina whooped and punched the air. "That's right! We're climbing the charts!"

I tried to play it cool. "It's just five points. Probably a glitch."

It wasn't.

By lunchtime, three separate quest boards had new entries with our provisional party name — "Heartlinked Temp." The name still made me cringe, but I was too tired to argue.

Then came the noble.

He wore enough frills to qualify as furniture and arrived with a snotty little entourage. We'd just finished turning in a low-tier beast capture job when he pointed at me and asked, loud enough for everyone to hear, "That's your leader?"

I felt the weight of judgment in every sequin of his monocle.

"Looks more like a scribe than a swordsman."

Before I could respond with something brilliant like "Hey," Kaela stepped between us.

Her tail flicked. Her glare could've boiled milk.

"He took down a corrupted direwolf with a copy spell and a broken wand. How many monsters have you fought with your powdered wig?"

The noble sputtered, turned red, then muttered something about "barbarian manners" and fled.

Lina threw an arm around Kaela's shoulder. "Didn't know you cared."

Kaela shrugged. "Just didn't like his voice."

Iris, who had been silently recording everything with a memory crystal, raised one brow. "Public interactions logged. Reputation boost: pending."

I couldn't help but laugh.

We weren't polished. We weren't famous.

But apparently, we were starting to matter.
