Chapter-9 Vent Fan Creation

Night cloaked the city of Falrem in stillness, but the forge on the first floor of Embersteel still held the scent of smoke and warm metal. Upstairs, Sellas sat on the chair, with his hands resting at the desk in his new room, illuminated by a single oil lamp.

Sheets of parchment lay scattered before him, filled with rough sketches and diagrams.

His fingers moved quickly, sketching gears, blades, a hand crank, and a housing frame. He'd never been an artist, but tonight, his hand felt guided—as if the design was being traced by memory rather than drawn from scratch.

His mind worked through the mechanics, airflow angles, rotational speed, and torque efficiency, drawing on a deep well of knowledge from Earth that probably not many possessed and even they did, they wouldn't realize their true worth.

But that didn't matter to him, as a fact, it served as a benefit for him because he could use that knowledge to create a simple mechanical device.

He knew it was going to earn him a lot of magic coins. He would only know the real price after creating the product and let Lyra judge it.

As he finished the last stroke and completed the design, the system notification started ringing him.

[Blueprint Detected. Do you wish to scan it?]

Sellas looked at the notifications in front of and hesitated for a second before confirming it.

[Design: Hand-Cranked Ventilation Fan- Refined]

[Optimized Blueprint Learned]

A rush of understanding filled his mind, refining his previous knowledge into a clean, professional-grade blueprint.

The gears aligned perfectly. The casing minimized drag. The fan blades curved with mathematically precise efficiency.

Sellas leaned back, stunned. The design in front of him wasn't just viable—it was beautiful.

"Thank you," he whispered to no one.

The blueprint on the screen was far better and more accurate than the one he had created. He didn't know the system had a function like this, but nonetheless he was ecstatic after seeing the redesigned blueprint.

He dismissed the screen and took out the new sheet after throwing away the old design. The new design was etched in his mind, and he felt like his mechanical knowledge had been slightly increased.

After sketching the design on the paper, he tucked it away and headed to bed. He wasn't hungry as he had eaten the dinner he bought from the nearest restaurant.

By the next morning, Sellas was up early. Lyra was already in the forge, hammering away at something heavy, but he didn't say a word about the blueprint. Not yet. He wanted it to be a surprise.

After a little bit of cleaning, he approached Lyra, and asked if he could use the forge again for another personal project.

"Same rules," she said with a nod. "Use only scrap unless you come ask me, but it will some time if you start the other furnace. So, wait till I finish this and then you can use it"

With granted permission, Sellas went to find all the scrap he could and waited for Lyra to finish her work.

In the meantime, he studied her work, trying to learn as much as possible. By the end of her work, two hours had already passed.

He brough the metal pieces over the forge and neatly laid them beside it. He began by shaping the internal supports—the crankshaft and central spindle.

The metal required precision shaping, it would have been hard for a novice blacksmith, but system had helped him, not just in the technique but his whole body, as he was able to handle the metals with more ease than before.

Then came the fan blades, which he shaped from thin copper sheets, and the gear system using sturdy steel. Sweat dripped down his brow as he filed and polished each piece.

Hours passed as he continued hammering the metal, shaping it carefully to match the vision in his mind.

When he finally stepped back, he exhaled deeply. System notifications chimed in his mind again, indicating a slight increase in his strength—but he dismissed them for now, his focus fixed on Lyra, who had been watching him intently.

"What exactly are you trying to make?" she asked, curiosity sparking in her eyes as she glanced at the small metal components scattered across the floor, after being cooled.

"Haha. Just give me a little more time and then you'll know," he chuckled before looking over the parts that were on the floor after being cooled down.

He began assembling the pieces. It was a fan—compact and sleek. A small, square housing held three curved blades within, all connected to a polished brass crank designed to turn them manually.

The finished piece was simple yet elegant, clearly crafted with portability and function in mind.

[Award: +50 Magic Coins]

[New Feature Unlocked: Mass Production Library]

[In the Mass production Library, you may now replicate crafted items using materials, provided a complete blueprint is stored]

Sellas stared at the notifications, wide-eyed.

"50 magic coins," he muttered with excited look. He looked toward the next notifications and he froze.

"What... I can mass produce them?" he muttered. He mentally opened the new feature and found his fan design filed neatly in there.

[Replicate Item-Materials required]

[User can store the materials in the Inventory and directly use them to replicate the items. The items will be stored in the Inventory]

With this, I can literally create these items continuously, all I need is to get materials.

After dismissing the screen with a thought, he approached Lyra with a fan cradled in his hands. The surprises were coming one after another.

"Got something to show you."

Lyra gave him a curious look, "Alright, what's this?"

He turned the crank. A soft whir filled the room as air began to move in a steady stream toward her face.

"Goddess' breath," she muttered. "That's… actually working. Wait—this little thing is blowing air?"

"It's called a fan," he said with a grin. "Moves air using mechanical force. I think every smithy, kitchen, and potion lab could use one."

Lyra turned it over in her hands, inspecting the craftsmanship. "You made all the parts yourself?"

He nodded. "All from scrap."

She looked impressed—and something more. Proud.

"This... this could sell," she said. "No. This will sell."

He hesitated, then asked, "Could we build a bigger one? For the forge?"

"Hell yes, we can."

Together, they began the next project—a larger fan, mounted on a frame and powered by a turning wheel. They spent the next two days designing and assembling it. This time, Lyra did the heavy lifting while Sellas handled the fine details.

When they mounted it near the forge and turned it on, the difference was immediate. The air shifted, the heat felt bearable, and the forge's interior finally breathed.

"Amazing," Lyra said, smiling with admiration. "You might just change the way smithies work, Sellas."

Sellas grinned, "That's exactly what I'm thinking. What do you think I should do? How do we sell it?"

Lyra paused thoughtfully before speaking. "Your best bet is to sell the design to the Arcane Guild for a decent sum. If you were going in alone, they'd probably try to take advantage of you—but don't worry, I've got connections there. I'll make sure you get a proper royalty deal."

She folded her arms, considering. "If you're thinking of selling it yourself, you'd need to hire a team of blacksmiths and train them. The blueprint's a bit complicated, but it can be replicated with enough effort—so I wouldn't recommend that route, at least not yet."

Sellas listened carefully, deep in thought.

I've got the Mass Production function in the system, so I could technically produce these myself… but I'd need a secure location—definitely not here—to start bringing out replicated items. For now, selling it to the guild sounds like the smarter move. Let's see what benefits I can get from that.

He asked silently, System, can I still earn Magic Coins if I sell the blueprints to the guild and they handle the production?

[User can earn Magic Coins if a royalty agreement is secured for items sold by the guild]

"That confirms it, then," he murmured, then turned to Lyra. "Let's go with the first option. We'll sell the blueprint to the guild—it'll take a lot of manpower to produce these anyway."

He grinned. "Besides, I'll be making plenty more inventions in the future."

With that, the two of them set off toward the main hall of the Arcane Guild, the small prototype fan in Sellas's hands—a product of both his ingenuity and his new world's possibilities.
