Review:

To be honest, this review is going to be more of a ramble than a focused critique. Normally, I write reviews like this for novels I believe have potential—but in this case, I don’t think there’s much of it.

First, the logical progression of the story doesn’t make sense. The protagonist is burned alive, but somehow still has all his clothes on afterward. Before confirming whether or not he had a Beyonder characteristic, he said he hoped he didn’t, so he could report it to the churches. But once he discovers he truly doesn’t have one, instead of doing that, he goes to the police. I’m not saying the decision itself was wrong—I’m saying it contradicts the internal logic the character himself just established. So what we get is this guy running from his point of contact to a police station, naked, while everyone’s confused about his gender. It’s messy and inconsistent.

Second, the transmigration setup is poorly handled. He transfers from our world to the Lord of the Mysteries world without any risk, consequence, or cost. He doesn’t lose any memories, doesn’t suffer side effects, and retains full knowledge of the original story. This completely disregards one of the core worldbuilding elements of Lord of the Mysteries—that knowledge (especially forbidden or high-level knowledge) is dangerous and can even kill you. Yet this guy knows everything, and it has zero impact on him. That breaks the immersion for me.

Third, and most importantly, the protagonist himself is just… dumb. I could overlook the previous issues if the character was at least intelligently written, but he’s not. His design is awful—not in terms of his job or setting, but in terms of how he thinks and acts. If you’ve read any third-rate Chinese webnovel, you’ll instantly recognize the same kind of shallow “clever” protagonist here. For example, he’s willing to pay 10,000 gold just for a Sequence 9 formula—that’s outright idiocy. And it’s not like he doesn’t have other options. He’s read the novel, he knows about multiple Beyonder gatherings and alternative paths. But he doesn’t treat the consequences of his actions seriously, and that tells me this isn’t a one-time mistake. This kind of short-sighted decision-making will likely keep happening throughout the story.

And frankly, I don’t want to spend the entire novel either forcing myself to stay patient or cursing the author from midnight until morning.
