Chapter 30: The Price of Power

A blinding flash of emerald and black light erupted from the beast's chest, condensing into a pulsating sphere between its claws. The God Beast reared back and fired—launching the colossal blast directly at Kaito.

"Kaito, MOVE!" Kael screamed, already activating Voidstep to intercept.

But it was too late.

The blast struck Kaito dead-on. The explosion lit the sky, the impact sending shockwaves that cracked the very earth. Smoke and dust erupted in all directions, and Kael was hurled backwards by the force alone. When he landed, he immediately rolled to his feet, coughing and searching for Kaito in the haze.

"Kaito!" he yelled again, his voice raw.

When the smoke cleared, Kael saw his friend—slumped against a shattered stone pillar, blood leaking from his mouth, his armor scorched and broken.

"Kaito…" Kael rushed to his side and dropped to one knee.

Kaito opened his eyes slowly, barely conscious. "I… I didn't dodge that one… huh," he whispered with a weak smile.

"Damn it," Kael growled, clenching his fists. "You're done fighting. Stay down. I'll finish this."

Kaito tried to raise his arm, but it fell limp. "Go… Kael. You're the only one who can now."

Kael stood slowly, the air around him growing heavy. His heart pounded like a war drum. The beast loomed ahead, snarling as its body cracked and hissed from the immense power it had just released. It was weakened—but still alive. And now, Kael was alone.

He exhaled, eyes narrowing. "Then I'll end this."

Void energy surged around him as he activated his full Overdrive State, his aura erupting in black and violet tendrils that danced like fire. The sky darkened slightly, and the battlefield fell silent except for the crackle of his energy and the distant growl of the God Beast.

Kael's body shimmered with power, and the faint outline of the Last Will flickered behind him like a guardian spirit—its form tall, crowned, and cloaked in starlight.

He took a step forward, then another, until he stood between the beast and his fallen friend.

"No more running," Kael said coldly. "No more regeneration. No more destruction."

The God Beast roared again, charging toward him like a tidal wave of claws and fury. But Kael didn't flinch.

He raised his blade and vanished into a blur of motion.

The final round had begun.
