Chapter 63: Shadows of the Unknown

The council chamber of Shinzai was quiet, the heavy wooden doors closed tight against the outside world.

At the center, Kaede Mizuno sat at the head of the table. His calm, steady eyes reflected years of leadership as the Ryuun for the past four years. Across from him were Ayato Kurai and Maiya Kurai, still catching their breaths from the battle earlier.

Kaede's gaze hardened as Ayato recounted the fight.

"A 3rd Wielder—moving like a shadow, taking down those beasts with ease. But none of our records show anyone matching that description. No one with that skill or appearance."

Maiya crossed her arms, frustration furrowing her brow. "He disappeared before we could even ask his name. It's like he wasn't even there."

Kaede frowned, tapping a finger on the table.

"We need answers. If this rogue is out there, unknown and unregistered, he could be a threat—or an ally we didn't know we had."

Ayato spoke up, "I think we should call Haruki."

Kaede nodded slowly. "Haruki Akiyama. He's sharp, and his instincts are some of the best I've seen. He might be able to track this stranger."

Maiya stood, resolve in her eyes. "I'll contact him now."

Later that afternoon, the three gathered again in a smaller room, tense and alert.

Haruki entered briskly, his youthful energy in contrast to the weight of the conversation.

After hours of searching through archives, cross-checking mission reports, and scanning recent sightings, the team found… nothing.

"No matches," Haruki said, frustration evident. "Nothing in the files, no rumors, no traces."

Maiya bit her lip. "He's a ghost."

Kaede shook his head, voice steady but grave. "A ghost with dangerous power."

That evening, Maiya met with Reika Mizuno in the quiet training grounds.

The sun was setting, casting long shadows.

Maiya lowered her voice, "There's something strange going on. A 3rd Wielder attacked those beasts—someone none of us know."

Reika frowned, her sharp eyes reflecting the fading light.

"And no one can find him? That's… unsettling."

Maiya nodded, "Exactly. It's like he's been hiding in the shadows all this time. But why now? Why here?"

Reika looked toward the city, tension creeping into her posture.

"We have to stay alert. This isn't just a simple mystery. It feels like something bigger is coming."

Back in the depths of Shinzai, hidden behind smiles and normal routines, the city's heartbeat pulsed with quiet uncertainty.

And somewhere, just out of sight…

Jinsei watched.

His eyes unreadable beneath the dark red strands of hair, the long bandage still marking his face.

He wasn't ready to reveal himself yet.

But soon.
