It began with a subtle tension at the dinner table.
Elena's father had grown quieter in recent days — no more proud talks about new projects or overseas expansions. The man who once walked with iron confidence now wore furrowed brows and eyes that constantly glanced at his phone, as if waiting for bad news. Even during their family dinner, his phone rang twice. Both times, he walked away to answer them with a voice slightly raised in stress.
Elena noticed it.
That night, after Zain had gone back, she knocked on her father's study room.
"Papa… is everything okay?"
He looked up — hesitant at first — then slowly removed his reading glasses.
"Elena, there are things… I didn't want to burden you with."
She sat beside him, gently taking his hand.
"You can tell me."
He sighed. The kind of sigh that weighed years.
"Our company... we're bleeding. Two major investors pulled out. One of them accused our partner in Vietnam of falsifying contracts. Now, the media's sniffing around. Our shares are crashing. We have debts piling up — tens of millions. If the court rules against us next week, we're looking at bankruptcy."
Elena froze. The name of the company — Harith Corporation — was once the pride of their family. The golden empire. Now? On the edge of collapse.
"Does mama know?"
He shook his head.
"She'll panic. I can't… I can't show weakness. Not now."
Elena looked down, trembling. Everything she knew was built on her father's success. The mansion. The cars. The reputation.
"But… is there anything you can do? Loans? Government support?"
"I tried. We're blacklisted temporarily until the investigations are over. No bank wants to touch us. No one wants to be linked to this scandal. Unless…" he paused.
"Unless what?"
"Unless someone powerful steps in. Someone who can wipe our debt, rebuild trust, and keep the vultures away."
His voice cracked a little. It was the first time Elena had ever seen her father look… small.
Meanwhile…
Far away, Zain stood alone on his penthouse balcony — city lights sparkling below him. His phone buzzed. An internal report from his finance division:
"Sir, Harith Corp's liquidity is collapsing. Would you like us to proceed with the silent acquisition plan?"
Zain stared at the message.
He could buy it.
Crush Mr. Harith's ego. Rebuild the company under his name. Own the empire of the man who once looked down on him.
But… Elena.
This was her father.
He deleted the message.
Not yet.
