Chapter 23: The Weight of Light and Time

Scene — Deep Forest Hideout, Nightfall

The stars shimmered faintly overhead, veiled behind the dense canopy of ancient trees.

Within a glowing protective barrier spun by the Time Maiden, the Time God lay unconscious —

His divine form cracked, flickering, barely breathing.

Haruto sat close, trembling hands clutching the watch now pulsing with terrifying power.

Airi sat beside him, her hand wrapped tightly around his arm — her ring glowing in perfect synchrony with the watch.

The Time Maiden gazed down at them with a bittersweet smile.

"You've both come far…" she said softly.

"But what lies ahead… will be greater than any darkness you've faced."

Haruto never looked up — his gaze fixed on the watch.

"This power…" he muttered.

"It feels alive."

Airi nodded quietly.

"And the ring… it keeps resonating."

The Time Maiden's voice was full of quiet reverence.

"That's because they are part of you," she said.

"The Watch and the Ring… were never just tools. They are echoes of your true selves."

Haruto's heart raced.

"But why now?" he asked.

"Why awaken them now?"

The Time Maiden raised her palm.

A rune shimmered between them — timeless, ancient.

The watch emitted a blinding burst of light.

A faint chime echoed — the sound of destiny unlocking.

"Because when you screamed… when you cried out for her life," the Time Maiden said,

"he heard you."

She nodded toward the sleeping Time God.

"Your heart broke the first seal. Your love — your pain — unlocked a piece of him inside you."

Airi's breath caught.

Haruto's hands trembled violently.

"So when I begged… someone really listened?"

"Yes," she said.

"But that power… was limited."

She pressed her palm forward, and another flash of light washed over them.

"No more."

"The final seal of time the second restraint is broken."

But there's a last restraint left which will be unsealed by another god when the time comes.

She smiled sadly.

"There are no more limits of time now."

"What you hold in your hand…" she said solemnly,

"is now the Time God's own might."

---

Silence.

Only the fire crackling nearby broke the heavy weight in the air.

Haruto swallowed hard.

"Then… does that mean I can protect everyone now?" he whispered.

The Time Maiden's voice turned grave.

"You can protect many…" she said,

"But hear me — even with this power…

you cannot defeat the Dark God."

"Not yet."

"You must awaken."

"You must remember."

Haruto lowered his head.

Airi squeezed his hand tighter.

The firelight flickered between them — fierce, defiant.

Scene Shift — Lake near the Hideout

The moonlight shimmered on the quiet water.

Fireflies drifted lazily over the surface.

Haruto and Airi sat side by side atop a rock, the cool breeze brushing past them.

Haruto smiled faintly.

"You know…" he said, voice gentle,

"There were days I thought I'd never smile again."

Airi looked at him — her heart squeezing.

"But you smiled," she whispered.

"When you saved me."

Haruto chuckled under his breath.

"Well…

Maybe it was time I finally returned the favor."

Airi laughed softly — a sound like starlight.

She looked down at her ring, glowing quietly.

"You changed, Haruto," she said.

"You're… glowing now."

Haruto turned to her, smiling sheepishly.

"Maybe because you were always my light."

Airi flushed — her mouth opening in surprise — but then she smiled shyly.

Their hands brushed lightly against the rock between them.

Neither pulled away.

Scene Shift — Forest Edge

Kazuki lurked behind a twisted tree, his eyes glued to the glowing trio at the fire.

Fear gnawed at his spine.

Kazuki's breath shook.

"The Time God… he's alive…" he muttered.

"And they're only getting stronger…"

He took a cautious step back — but a crack of a twig froze him in place.

"I gave them too much time…" he cursed under his breath.

And now… the tides had shifted.

---

Final Scene — Deep Night

The Time God stirred faintly — his voice a mere whisper carried on the night wind.

"...The fragments… of Light…" he rasped weakly.

"They must… become whole…"

The watch and ring blazed in the darkness —

Their glow now visible for miles.

The wind howled once — as if time itself were exhaling.

The true war was about to begin.
