Chapter 26 – The Hollowfang Returns

The church door creaked as it shut behind them.

Morning light filtered through the trees, casting long shadows across the moss-covered stone. The group stood in silence just outside the ruined building, the air still cool and heavy from the night before.

No one spoke at first.

Not until Elizabeth did.

"…We're all here now, right?"

They looked around — a quick glance, a hopeful check-in.

Then the silence settled.

And sank.

Shoto's stomach dropped. "Wait."

Everyone turned toward him.

"Where's Braydon?"

A heavy stillness fell over them.

"He was with us," Pate muttered. "When we split. We all went separate ways."

"No one's seen him since," Elizabeth whispered.

KJ glanced into the woods. "What if he didn't make it?"

Brandon gritted his teeth. "He made it."

But before the thought could land…

The birds went quiet.

The air changed — colder, sharper.

And from the forest came a low, guttural growl.

Branches snapped.

Earth trembled.

And then it stepped into the clearing.

Massive.

Twisted.

Its body scarred from the last battle, but stronger now. Eyes glowing like molten stone. Breath steaming in clouds of black mist.

The Hollowfang.

It had found them again.

"Scatter!" Shoto shouted.

The group burst into motion.

KJ threw a shield of dark energy — the Hollowfang slammed through it.

Pate blasted a beam of light into its side — it howled but didn't stop.

Shoto launched a spear of compressed flame — it staggered but charged again.

Elizabeth ducked behind a pillar, pulling Gage and Riley with her.

The monster surged forward — slashing, growling, relentless.

And for a moment… it looked like it might win.

Shoto, KJ, and Pate stood shoulder to shoulder — battered, backs to the church wall, power flaring wildly as the Hollowfang lunged one final time.

And then—

A blur.

A single step.

A glint of silver.

SHHHK.

The Hollowfang froze.

Its body twitched.

And slowly… collapsed.

Behind it, katana dripping with black blood, stood a figure cloaked in mist and calm fury.

Braydon.

The group froze.

Breathless.

He didn't speak at first.

Just looked at the monster's corpse, then up at his friends.

"…Miss me?"
