Chapter 194: Labyrinth (67)
The sky was dark and the earth yellow, with sand filling the air. Amidst the overwhelming Sandstorm, several figures moved forward slowly but steadily.
"Good thing Hayato brought us to find this Chick Card," Joey Wheeler said, his voice slightly muffled as he used his Arena cloak as a mask to avoid getting a mouth full of sand. "Otherwise, we probably would have been blown straight back by this Sandstorm."
It had been about half an hour since they set off from Nameless Town. From the initial slight gusts of wind to the sky being filled with sand, the further they advanced, the greater the resistance they faced. Fortunately, they weren't moving on their own two feet, but were being carried by the Fat Chick beneath them.
Due to their plump Stats, the Fat Chick wasn't particularly afraid of the Sandstorm. Although the storm was strong, the wind couldn't blow away their heavy bodies, and the swirling sand and stones hitting their thick layer of fat didn't hurt at all.
As they walked, it was as if they crossed some boundary at a certain moment. The sand and stones that had constantly surrounded Hayato and the others suddenly disappeared.
"Did we pass through the Sandstorm?" Yugi raised his head in confusion, shaking the sand from his hair. However, he found that the strong winds had whipped up sand and stones, forming a circle of high walls around them, as if to trap them inside.
"Although typhoons are powerful, the eye of the typhoon is a miraculously windless zone," Hayato drew two Cards from his Deck. "This is probably the central area of the Sandstorm."
As soon as Hayato raised the drawn Cards above his head, they emitted a Light. Before everyone's eyes, a pile of sand and stones flew up into the air from nowhere, quickly gathering and condensing into a Monster made of wind and sand.
Sand Stone Monster [1300/1600]
"A mere Small Fry dares to show off before me, truly not knowing the immensity of heaven and earth, completely disregarding me!" Before Hayato, Armed Dragon LV5 revealed itself. Time was short, so he only had time to Summon Armed Dragon LV3, and then use Level Up! to Evolve it to LV5.
However, that was completely sufficient.
Relying on the Toughness of its metal Armor, Armed Dragon LV5 completely ignored the Sand Stone Monster's Attack. Flapping the Dragon Wings on its back, which still retained the ability to fly, it swooped down and pinned the Sand Stone Monster beneath it.
Using the sharp spikes on its knees, it struck the Sand Stone Monster's neck fiercely, not even giving it time to say "I can't breathe." Armed Dragon LV5 finished off the Sand Stone Monster in just a few moves, and then gradually disappeared itself as it exited the Battle Phase.
Almost the moment after the Sand Stone Monster was defeated by Armed Dragon LV5, the Sandstorm that had continuously enveloped the surroundings gradually subsided. The sand and stones fell back to the ground, the strong winds blew into the distance, and even the Light became much brighter.
Joey Wheeler lowered his Cloak: "Was that Sandstorm just now actually stirred up by that Monster?"
"That was a truly Bad experience. Good thing this is the Game World, otherwise I feel like my hair would be ruined," Kujaku Mai tossed her long hair, shaking off a large amount of sand and stones.
Keipei, the moment his vision cleared, looked into the distance and said excitedly, "Everyone, look there!"
Following the Direction Keipei pointed, beneath the distant high mountain, stood an ancient building resembling a temple. It looked like it was probably the Giant Rock Temple, and it wasn't too far away.
"That should be the Giant Rock Temple. As far as I know, the Tribute offered to the Final Boss was taken there." Putting his Cards away, Hayato patted the Fat Chick beneath him, urging it forward. "Our next Goal is there."
The group continued forward. Without the Sandstorm, their speed increased significantly, and they soon reached the steps leading to the temple entrance.
Dismounting from the Chick, Hayato walked in front, Kujaku Mai and Joey Wheeler brought up the rear, and Yugi and Keipei were in the middle. The group entered the ancient temple.
Although called a temple, the Giant Rock Temple didn't resemble one at all. Instead, it felt like a dwelling place for evil spirits. The ground beneath their feet was rough rock, and the ceiling was like a cave full of hanging stalactites, with water dripping down occasionally. Sometimes, even a couple of bats hidden within would fly out, giving the place an extremely eerie feeling.
"This feels too Bad," Joey Wheeler complained. "It's like someone who hates strawberries the most brushing their teeth only to find there's only strawberry-flavored toothpaste left at home!"
"I feel like it's more like your Boss giving you a report to finish just when you're about to leave work and go home," Hayato chimed in. "But this isn't the true interior of the temple. Look, there's a large door ahead."
At the very front of the Passage they had been walking through, a large wooden door stood tall. They wondered why there would be a wooden door in such a damp place. Standing before the door, Hayato and Joey Wheeler pushed together, slowly opening the heavy door.
However, what appeared before them were several high walls.
Calling them high walls might not be entirely accurate, because these walls were all Connected to each other, forming countless interconnected sections, revealing a complex Labyrinth!
"First the Graveyard, then the Labyrinth, I'm already getting a Bad feeling," Joey Wheeler couldn't help but recall his Bad experiences during the Duelist Kingdom. After being Kidnapped by Bandit Keith and his underlings, he was forced into a terrifying Duel filled with Zombie-Type Monsters.
Afterward, he was locked underground with Yugi and the others, and to find a way out, he was forced to Duel the Paradox Brothers.
This experience strangely coincided with their experiences after entering the Game World. If he didn't know that this game was developed by KaibaCorp, Joey Wheeler might even suspect that the Final Boss wasn't Pegasus.
"But, now we can only keep going," Yugi sighed, looking at the Labyrinth before them. "I hope the Labyrinth isn't too difficult, and what I'm more worried about is that there might be some dangerous Monsters guarding it."
Speak of the devil.
Just as Yugi finished speaking, they heard movement from the ground beside them. A large, square section of the ground sank, and from it slowly rose a blue mechanical tank. The front of the tank was equipped with several drills that looked quite dangerous.
"This is, Labyrinth Tank?!" Joey Wheeler recognized the Monster's True Body at a glance, because he had encountered this Monster during his Duel with the Paradox Brothers. "Everyone, hurry and escape into the Labyrinth!"
The group quickly ran into the Labyrinth. The moment they moved, the Labyrinth Tank was also activated. Its drills spun at high speed, emitting a buzzing sound, and it chased after Yugi and the others who had entered the Labyrinth.
