Kai's POV
'Come to this address if you want these pictures to be kept hidden.'
I massaged my forehead and took a deep sigh after turning off the screen of my phone. I don't understand why my life started becoming messy again. Just now, I received a threat. The message comes with a photo of me and Zane—taken at the club. I would just ignore the message if the picture didn't pose a threatening scenario, but it did. It was a photo of me and Zane kissing at the club.
"It's raining heavily, sir. I have to go home early, or I'll be caught by the flood."
"Go ahead, Melissa." I answered and pulled myself up. "I have to go somewhere anyway."
I entered the elevator and pressed the basement parking. Zane is not here today, and he informed me that he'll be meeting someone. A judge, I think? I don't know what his business is with a judge, but I didn't intervene.
Zane and I are back to normal again. When normal, I meant we're fighting again over small things. Just like yesterday. We fought about him getting his own car, but he doesn't want to. He said he needs to save money, and I don't know why he's saying that as a reason when everyone knows that he's become a wealthy man.
I drove my car silently—ignoring the heavy rain and the floor warning. I have to go to the address, or Zane and I will both be ruined. I can't let that happen. Although I'm dreaming of having him for myself, I won't stoop that low to get him. Besides, I don't wanna hurt my sister.
"What kind of place is this?" I whispered when I arrived at the address.
I was brought into the heart of a forest where a wooden cabin was found. It looked abandoned and creepy. But my reason for coming here is stronger than the eerie vibe that the place could give.
I have to delete the photos and find the person who took them.
I didn't waste time and entered the cabin, ignoring the heavy rain that immediately soaked me. Cobwebs and dust welcomed me, making me cough. I covered my nose and mouth when I heard a car arriving.
My forehead creased as I immediately stepped out of the cabin. A taxi arrived. I thought it was the person who sent me the threat, but it's not.
The taxi immediately left after dropping Zane, who's now walking towards me with a darkened expression on his face. He was immediately damped by the rain shower as he stood in front of me with eyes brooding.
"What are you—"
"What the hell are you thinking?!" He grabbed my wrist, almost hurting me.
"What the hell, Zane? What's your problem?" I tried to break free from his grip, but I guess he's too angry that my strength was nothing to him.
"You are my problem!" He angrily pushed me against the hood of my car. 'Why did you come here alone, huh? I was calling you, and you're not even answering. What's gotten into your mind?"
I gritted my teeth. "I'm here to meet someone. How did you know that I'm here?"
"I went to the company, and the security guard told me that you left, taking the opposite direction. Did you know how I panicked when I saw your car here? Huh? This is a dangerous place! What are you even thinking?"
My forehead creased. "I didn't see any danger!"
"Of course you won't!" He growled, eyes burning with rage as he pointed at the dark part of the forest. "I saw someone there. He ran away when he saw the taxi coming. You could've been put in danger!"
I swallowed hard and took a deep breath. "I just…I just need to talk to someone."
"Someone, huh? Why do you have to talk here?"
"I don't know." I growled at him, losing my cool. Why is he even nagging me? "He wanted to meet here, so I agreed—"
"You agreed?" He laughed as if I had made the dumbest decision. I know this is crazy, but I can't just let that picture spread. "You agreed without even thinking about what might happen? You could be killed here easily, Kai! Why didn't you think of that possibility?"
"I know that possibility, Zane!" My jaw tensed. His voice was so loud, even louder than the rain and the heavy beat of my heart. The cold was nothing because Zane's warmth is comforting me even when we're having heated conversation.
I understand his point, but he has to understand me, too.
"You knew, and yet you still come here? I can't believe you!"
I inhaled sharply and balled my fists. I can't waste time here. "I told you I have to meet someone here!"
"Who's that fcking someone?" He spat every word with dripping rage. The tension continues to arise. "Who are you meeting, Kai?"
I couldn't answer. How am I supposed to answer that question when I don't know either? "I…"
I couldn't say anything. He can't find out about the photo.
"Who are you supposed to meet here, Montclair?" His voice became even more dangerous. He was so angry. His neck were red in anger. "Answer me!"
"I don't know. I don't even know him. He just told me to come here to settle things."
"He told you to go here alone? To settle things? Are you fcking out of your mind? What things?"
I shook my head. "I need to find that man—"
"You are not following him!" his voice roared louder than the thunder as he pushed me back on the hood of my car.
I glared at him. "I need to go, Zane! He has a photo."
"What kind of photo that you decided to put yourself in danger?"
I have no other choice. "It's a photo of me making out. Okay? I can't let it get exposed."
"Was it that bastard?"
"What?" My forehead creased.
"Are you protecting that bastard you made out with while I was unconscious and drunk?"
"Yes." Without hesitation.
"You're gonna have yourself killed for that asshole who can't even remember kissing you?"
I gave him a bittersweet smile. "He's important to me, I guess."
"Fuck!" He cursed out loud, pulling his damp hair before he threw me deadly glares. What?
