Pilot ~ Part 13

On the Ark Abby stood in front of the screens, her eyes glued to them as she watched the tiles slowly turning dark one by one. She clasped her hands nervously in front of her, drawing her attention away for a moment. "Ten more, one after the next." She mumbled to the Bridge Officer next to her. Jackson behind her glanced up at the screens and made his way over to the woman, gently tapping her arm. "Abby, look at Plasma Osmolarity." He said almost excitedly. "It's going up across the board." He said with a smile. Abby glanced up and smiled, tears slightly filling her eyes as she reached across to Jackson and held onto his hand, a sigh of relief escaping her. "They found water." She said.

The doors to the room opened, Commander Shumway entering with four guards behind him. "Councilor Abigail Griffin, you're under arrest for exceeding the maximum medical supplies allowed for a patient." He stated, the guards coming in. Abby's face fell as soon as she heard the words under arrest, she already knew what for. She turned around, not struggling as one of the guards moved her hands behind her back. Kane walked in, eyeing Abby up for a moment. "Sorry this has to be public." He half assed apologised. "The policy in these matters is very clear..." He said bluntly. "No special treatment." He said cocking his head to the side.

Kane was about to walk away from her but turned around to face her after a moment, the woman staying silent. "Ho much blood did you us, Abby?" He asked almost criticizing her. "Don't answer that." Jackson whispered quietly beside her. Abby ignored it, almost speaking over him, her voice firm and sure. "I used whatever it took." She confirmed. "Breaking the law to keep you from becoming Chancellor was the easiest decision I've ever made." She commented, almost a proud smile making it's way onto her face as she stared at Kane who didn't seem amused.

"In that case..." He nodded his head slowly, briefly looking to Jackson before looking back to Abby. "Given your confession, in my role as Chancellor pro tempore, you leave me no choice but to find you guilty." He said. "We always have a choice, Kane." Abby stated bluntly to him, her eyes searching his. "You chose to press charges against my husband, your friend, even though you knew he would get floated for it. You chose to include my daughter in those chargers, and now you're choosing this." She stated, she might as well get it all out now while she could and finally saying it to his face was good, though she wouldn't go down without defending Clarke either. "Hiding behind the law absolves you of nothing." She said, venom spitting from her tongue as she spoke.

"Be that as it may, in accordance with penal code one, because all crimes committed by those above the age of maturity are capital crimes, you are hereby sentenced to death." He said taking a step closer to her. Abby's face fell slightly, her mouth dropping open for a second before it began to hit her. "Execution is set for the morning, and I choose at every turn and at any cost to make sure that the human race stays alive." He said seriously, his face inches away from hers. He turned away from her but stopped hearing Abby speak again. "That's the difference between us, Kane." She said and looked at him as he turned back around.

"I choose to make sure that we deserve to stay alive."

The guards led Abby into one of the cells, undoing the cuffs from around her wrists which were practically zip ties. Abby's head came up and she had to double look around the room. Her face fell slightly, her head turning to the side. There were drawings all over the wall, beautifully drawn and so much detail in them. She teared up slightly, a strained whimper leaving her as she glanced around at the drawings. She walked around on the spot, taking in the drawings she could see before she looked down at the floor. She knelt down slightly, her eyes fixed on the drawing there. The moon, the sky, a forest with beautiful trees. Abby brushed her hand gently over the drawing before she pressed her hand flat to the floor, her eyes closed as she tried to hold in her emotions, a tear falling down her cheek.

She knew she was in her daughters cell.

Clarke woke up to noises echoing around her, her vision blurry at first. Her eyes squinted for a moment but cleared up quickly. She lifted her head slightly then sat up, her eyes scanning the area around her, her mouth dropping open slightly in awe. The plants and fungi that were complimenting the trees seemed to be glowing, making it clearer to see the slight fog that was shrouding the forest at that point. Clarke glanced behind her, seeing the others were asleep, Octavia resting her head on Jasper's chest and Monty curled up in front of them. Clarke smiled a little and slowly stood up, not minding exploring by herself.

She walked forward, letting herself get lost in the forest, the plants and fungi in the bushed and on the rocks glowing, making the moss look brighter. She stepped towards one of them, her hand bracing on a tree, as Clarke got closer the soft glow from the plants casted on her face, lighting it in a soft green glow. "Pretty cool, huh?" A voice came from behind making her head spin around slightly to see Finn stood there with a small smile on his face, his long shoulder length dark hair tucked behind his ears.

She looked down seeing something in his hands and frowned. "Did you go to the river?" Finn sighed for a moment but nodded. "Figured it was worth losing a finger or two." He lightly joked. "Here." He said and passed the leaf towards Clarke, water cupped in the curved shape of the plant. Clarke smiled some, lifting it up in the palm of her hands and taking a small drink of the water. She nodded to herself trying to enjoy it, the first time she'd and natural water and it was quite refreshing, especially after the day they'd had.

"You call that a sip?" Finn teased almost seriously. Clarke started at him for a moment before looking back down, almost like she was waiting for permission to drink more. She smiled to herself and lifted it up again, taking a longer sip this time. The water wetting her lips. "You think this means we're all gonna grow two heads?" Finn teased gently, smiling softly at the blonde as he leaned forward, a small chuckle escaping the both of them. Clarke laughed after a moment and Finn smiled. "What do you know? She can laugh." He commented gently at her, sharing a silent gaze with her for a moment. "Come on. You have to see this." He said.

He walked away from her, heading up one of the dirt slopes into the forest and knelt down about halfway up. He got on his knees and sat back on his feet, tucking his hair behind his ear before he looked to his side seeing Clarke getting down beside him. Clarke raised her eyebrows wondering what they were doing and he smiled and pointed down to the ground, a footprint of some sort embedded into the ground. "That's a toe." He said. "Plus, near as I can tell, whatever it is, it's walking on two feet." He said, Clarke nodded some though she looked pretty serious about something else being down here with them. "My guess...monkeys." he said. Clarke looked to Finn and hearing his guess she couldn't help the laugh come out, almost a snort as she laughed unexpectedly. "I'm...I'm sorry. It's just, according to everything I've read, there were no bipedal animals anywhere near here, certainly not monkeys." She apologised with a slight amused tone.

Finn nodded slowly, his lips pouting slightly. "Right. You read anything about glow in the dark forests or man eating snakes?" He asked her. Clarke started at him for a moment before nodding, raising her eyebrows some, that was a fair point. They shared a silent gaze, Clarke's eyes flicking briefly down to Finn's lips as his tongue darted out to wet his lips some. She turned her head away before looking back down at the footprint he'd found.
