Chapter 38: Success

The villagers had indeed just registered as adventurers. Based on an agreement with the Adventurers' Guild, some of them accepted quests to subjugate the increasingly active monsters in the forests around the city. Kael was well aware of this.

However, he never expected that his 'family' would become so entangled with Momon and Narberal. And now, they mysteriously appeared here, just in time to support the Black Scripture, who were being ambushed by the Great Sage of the Undead.

This was truly...

"So troublesome!" Kael growled inwardly. He looked at Momon, who was deftly killing low-level undead below, and felt a pang in his chest. Initially, with the Great Sage of the Undead's level, it would have been easy for him to obliterate the Black Scripture and seize the artifact calmly. However, now that this 'cursed old man' was involved, the situation had become incredibly complicated.

If Momon was willing to maintain his disguise as the adventurer Momon, then everything would be fine. Momon, without using his magical abilities, was no different from a level 30s empty warrior. He might not even be able to defeat a Death Knight, and certainly wouldn't have much impact on this chaotic battle situation. However, if he deemed the situation too dangerous and reverted to his true status as a level 100 Overlord of Death, then the Great Sage of the Undead would be no match for him, no matter what.

Damn it! If you piss me off, I'll kill you right now! Kael narrowed his eyes slightly, glaring intently at the fighting Momon, a surge of emotion washing over him.

Then, through his special connection with the Great Sage of the Undead, he issued a firm and swift command. "Quick battle and quick decision! Kill the target and take him away; don't get too involved with the others!"

"Yes!"

After the Great Sage of the Undead received the order, a gloomy light shone in his empty eyes, and without hesitation, he pointed his grim magic staff towards Kaire, who was amidst the Black Scripture members.

Seeing the unexpected action, the Captain of the Black Scripture was suddenly aghast. Cyan energy emanated from his body, forcing him to break free from the wraiths' grasp one by one with immense power. He yelled urgently to his comrades behind him. "Their target is Lady Kaire! Watch out!!!"

The shout did reach his comrades' ears, but it was already a little too late.

"Seventh Tier: Claw of the Dead!"

A monstrous, gigantic bone claw suddenly erupted from the ground, locking Kaire in its grasp, then crushing her with devastating force! Before they could even scream, the old and frail Kaire, along with Cedran, "Myriad Barriers," and [Heaven and Earth], who were guarding her, were snatched by the bone claw. The terrifying force crushed their bones in the blink of an eye; even from a distance, heartbreaking cracking sounds could be heard.

A fatal blow!

"Lady Kaire!"

"Detestable!"

Witnessing their comrades brutally killed before their eyes, the surviving Black Scripture members were instantly engulfed in burning rage. They unleashed all sorts of heroic martial arts and magic whose levels were far above the fourth tier. Most of the low-level undead summoned by Khajiit vanished in an instant, shattering into pieces.

Not only that, the captain, who had finally completely broken free from [Undead Domination], rushed forward with lightning speed towards the Great Sage of the Undead, followed by Momon and Narberal from behind, both now joining the pursuit.

"You two, block the two behind them!" The Great Sage of the Undead commanded Khajiit and Clementine beside him, while he himself used a pre-existing summoning spell, "Ninth Tier: Summon Undead!"

A three-meter-tall humanoid undead warrior appeared before the Great Sage of the Undead with a trembling aura. He wore crimson armor that exuded an eerie aura, the longsword in his hand shimmered like cold obsidian, and his blood-red cloak continuously billowed, as if a wave of blood followed his every movement.

He was a Death General, level 59.

The very first second after appearing, the Death General immediately intercepted the approaching captain. He swung his sword with all his might, bringing it down towards the captain's head accompanied by a terrifying gust of wind. There was no doubt whatsoever that if the captain were struck by this sword, he would surely be split in half.

The captain swiftly blocked the deadly attack with the spear in his hand. A dull, heavy sound was heard as the spear came into contact with the giant sword, making his hand holding the spear tremble slightly. However, he was still able to withstand this level of attack. The captain pushed hard with his foot and parried the Death General's sword. He brandished his spear and fought his opponent. The battle situation reached a tense stalemate for a moment.

To the left, Momon confronted Clementine, who was blocking his path. Even though he was physically stronger than his opponent, Momon was not a true fighter. Not only did he lack experience in close-quarters combat, but he also possessed no martial arts skills whatsoever. He relied entirely on basic attacks in battle and soon found himself at a significant disadvantage.

What was different from the original version was that in this fight, Clementine had no intention of toying with Momon. Every attack she launched was aimed at killing him, and her movements were incredibly cruel and merciless.

Momon's giant sword desperately tried to cut Clementine's waist, but she raised the magic spike in her hand, and a red fluorescence appeared on her body.

Martial Art: Adamantite Fortress!

This was the latest updated version of "Fortress." Although this martial art tested the user's understanding of precise launch timing, once successfully blocked, its effect would be excellent. Momon's giant sword and Clementine's short magic cone collided, creating bright sparks, but the recoil force of the martial art suddenly exploded, and Momon's sword-wielding hand swung backward uncontrollably, leaving a large opening in his defense.

Clementine exploited this opportunity perfectly. As she stepped forward swiftly, the short magic cone in her other hand pierced through the breathing hole of Momon's full-face helmet with incredible speed.

Crunch!

The sharp tip of Clementine's magic spike successfully hit its target, and Momon was pierced, forced to retreat several steps. However, a slight shock flickered in Clementine's eyes. If it were an ordinary person who took this blow, a large hole would have formed in their head, meaning death. But why didn't the armored warrior in front of her die? She probably couldn't imagine that behind the full plate armor in front of her was actually a cold and emotionless undead skeleton. So after the attack, Momon was like an indestructible cockroach and continued to engage her in fierce close-quarters combat.

Elsewhere, Narberal fought fiercely with the sorcerer Khajiit. Thanks to the Skeletal Dragon's protection, several of Narberal's attacks failed to inflict any damage on Khajiit, which made Narberal frown in dissatisfaction and frustration. If only the Supreme One hadn't ordered me to only use third-tier magic, I would have easily killed this leech by now, she thought, annoyed.

The three main Attack Controllers were finding it difficult to achieve a decisive victory for the time being. However, the other Black Scripture members and some adventurers who had transformed from Carne Village residents easily swept away all the low-level undead, leaving only the two Death Knights stubbornly resisting.

Although Death Knights were mid-tier undead at level 35, their defensive capabilities were exceptional and could rival monsters at level 40. In addition, they could convert the lives they killed into follower zombies, and possessed a special skill that forcibly locked their health to 1 point when they received a fatal blow, making them incredibly difficult to take down.

Even though all members of the Black Scripture Team had reached the heroic realm (levels 29-35), and the second strongest among them, [Strongest Human], was an abnormal individual whose level was equivalent to the Baharuth Empire's Imperial Court Magician, Fluder (levels 36-42), it was not easy to deal with the two formidable Death Knights.

So, after dealing with the low-level undead, the others immediately split into two groups. The first group assisted [Strongest Human] in fighting the Death Knight, and the other group advanced to help the captain and his three subordinates in facing the Great Sage of the Undead, Khajiit, and Clementine.

Just as they were about to act, a dark shadow suddenly appeared beside the lifeless bodies of Kaire and her subordinates. Although [Time Turbulence], who was responsible for guarding the three bodies, reacted incredibly quickly, before he could launch an attack, the enemy split him in half with a sword.

"Ah!"

That final cry of lament attracted everyone's attention. Momon, who was fiercely fighting Clementine, also turned his head, and was shocked to see what had happened.

"That's... a Doom Lord!" Momon murmured in disbelief.

A Doom Lord was an extremely powerful undead monster at level 70. Once summoned, its HP would continuously decrease. Based on the amount of HP lost, a corresponding power increase could be gained. I didn't expect to see this kind of monster here, Momon thought with amazement.

Sighing, Momon noticed a mysterious robed man behind the Doom Lord. As the Doom Lord killed [Time Turbulence], the robed man grabbed the dead old woman and used teleportation magic to disappear without a trace, leaving chaos and confusion on the battlefield.
