Ugly to you, Mine to me

Chapter 36: The Lie Ends on a Whisper, Not a Scream

He stood outside her door the next morning.Didn't knock.Just stared at it until it opened.

She blinked.

"Akiro?"

He didn't speak.

Just held up the folded note from her sketchbook.

"When were you going to tell me?"

Her breath caught.

"I wasn't."

Silence.

Then her voice, soft and trembling:

"Because I knew you'd look at me like that."

"Like what?"

"Like I'm already dead."

She let him in.

Told him everything.

The diagnosis. The timeline. The way she waited too long to ask for help.

And when she finished, she didn't cry.

She just said:

"Please don't leave this time."

And he didn't.

He sat down beside her, took her hand, and kissed the back of it.

"You're not gone yet.So I'm not either."
