Chapter 48: I Opened the Envelope Meant for When I Couldn't Go On
It was a storm outside.
He waited until the sky roared.
Then he opened the one letter he'd never touched — the one marked:
"For when you can't hold on anymore."
Inside, in her familiar, fierce handwriting:
*"Akiro. If you're reading this, you're standing at the edge.Maybe on a rooftop. Or a bridge. Or just inside your own thoughts, trying to breathe.
I'm not going to tell you to stay.I'm going to tell you the truth."*
"You were never ugly."
"Not to me. Not once."
"You were the most human thing I ever touched."
"If you go… I'll forgive you.But if you stay — even just another day — I'll be the echo behind every breath reminding you:You are still mine."
He sobbed like the sky had finally cracked with him.
Then folded the letter.
And stayed.
