The Forbidden Curriculum, Ch 42

In reality, Jennifer's anger was directed more at the woman involved, as she felt that Evan was, in a way, a victim of circumstance.

It was a moment of unbridled tension as Evan stood before Jennifer, his eyes pleading for understanding. Despite being a student, he had succumbed to his weaknesses, unable to resist the temptation that had been laid before him.

However, it was not courage that had driven him to act, but rather the initiative taken by the other party. Jennifer was convinced that if the woman had not taken the first step, Evan would never have mustered the courage to cross the line. The blame, in Jennifer's opinion, rested squarely on the shoulders of that shameless woman, who had knowingly seduced a minor.

As Jennifer's words hung in the air, Evan's face contorted in a mixture of desperation and helplessness. He swiftly blocked Jennifer's path, his voice laced with a sense of resignation.

"Mrs. Jennifer, isn't it enough that I acknowledge my wrongdoing? It's all my fault, and it has nothing to do with her."

His eyes darted back and forth, filled with a deep-seated fear that Jennifer would confront Noh Ayla, exposing the scandalous affair between him and his friend's mother. The repercussions would be catastrophic, not just for Noh Ayla, but also for Noh Min, who would inevitably be drawn into the fray.

Jennifer's expression remained cold and unyielding, her voice firm as she pressed Evan for answers. "Who is this woman? How old is she? Why are you so desperate to protect her?" Her words were tinged with a sense of concern, a desire to shield Evan from the clutches of someone she deemed to be a corrupting influence.

"You're only sixteen, and I won't stand idly by while she destroys you. I need to speak with her, to make her promise that she'll have no further contact with you. And I require a written guarantee from you that you'll sever all ties with her."

As Jennifer's determination became clear, Evan's desperation reached a boiling point. He blurted out a heartfelt plea, his words tumbling forth in a rush. "Mrs. Jennifer, please, can't you just stop caring about me? You're not my mother, nor my class teacher. Why do you feel the need to intervene in my life like this? What concern is it of yours?" The question hung in the air, a challenge to Jennifer's motivations and her desire to protect Evan.

For a moment, Jennifer was taken aback, her eyes locking onto Evan's as she struggled to comprehend her own actions. She had no formal connection to Evan, no obligation to guide him or protect him. And yet, the thought of him succumbing to the influences of that woman had stirred something within her.

It wasn't that she had a particularly good impression of Evan; rather, she was driven by a desire to prevent him from straying down a path of destruction.

She didn't want to watch him learn bad habits, didn't want to see him become a degenerate teenager, lost to the temptations of the world.

As she stood there, frozen in thought, Jennifer was forced to confront the depths of her own emotions, and the reasons behind her unwavering concern for Evan's well-being.

As the conversation unfolded, Jennifer's face underwent a stark transformation, her complexion turning a pale shade that seemed almost translucent in the light.

Her eyes, once filled with a deep concern, now bore into Evan with a cold, unyielding intensity. "Evan, I'll ask you once more," she said, her voice firm but laced with a hint of desperation, "Will you listen to me, or not?" The air was heavy with anticipation as she awaited his response.

Evan's reply was succinct and resolute, his voice tinged with a hint of anger.

"No," he said, his neck stiffening as he stood his ground, his eyes locked onto Jennifer's. "I have the freedom to do as I please, and I know who genuinely cares for me." The words hung in the air, a palpable challenge that seemed to reverberate deep within Jennifer's chest.

The impact of Evan's words was immediate and profound.

Jennifer felt a searing pain pierceing her heart, as if the very foundations of her being had been shaken. Her body began to tremble, her eyes welling up with tears that flowed uncontrollably down her cheeks.

The sight of her distress was a poignant reminder of the depth of her emotions, and the anguish that Evan's words had unleashed. With a slow, deliberate nod, she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. "Okay, Evan, I understand. I've overstepped my bounds, meddling in affairs that aren't mine to interfere with. I won't bother you again. Goodbye."

The finality of her words was a stark contrast to the turmoil that seemed to be brewing inside her.

As Jennifer turned to leave, her footsteps echoed through the air, a hurried departure that seemed to underscore the depth of her sorrow. As Evan watched her depart, a pang of regret stirred within him.

He couldn't help but feel that his words had been too harsh, too unforgiving. Yet, his pride refused to let him acknowledge his mistake, leaving him to stand there, frozen in a mixture of uncertainty and longing.

The distance between them grew, a physical manifestation of the emotional chasm that now seemed to separate them.

The aftermath of their confrontation left Evan feeling lost and empty, as if he had misplaced something precious, something that could never be recovered.

The excitement that had once coursed through his veins, the thrill of being with Noh Ayla, now seemed hollow, a pale imitation of the connection he had once shared with Jennifer.

It was a cruel irony, one that seemed to haunt him still – the woman he truly desired was Jennifer, and yet, he had let her slip away, a victim of his own ego and stubbornness.

As the reality of his situation sank in, Evan stood there, suspended in a state of limbo, unsure of how to bridge the gap that had opened up between them.
