Chapter 4: The Forgotten Court
The light engulfed them.
Yue staggered as her senses twisted. Her breath caught in her throat as if she were falling—not through air, but through time and memory. A storm of voices brushed her mind, faint echoes of forgotten prayers and long-dead regrets. Then silence.
They landed on cracked marble.
All around them, the world was warped. Pale trees with silver leaves lined a pathway that led toward a throne hall built of obsidian glass. The sky was a swirl of violet and gold, yet no sun shone. Instead, constellations shifted and blinked like sentient eyes.
A notification hovered in the air, translucent and cold.

Yue shivered. "What is this place?"
"An echo of the past," Shen Liang said, his voice grim. "The Void Kings ruled between realms. This court must've been anchored to Qingxuan's final domain before it fell."
As they stepped forward, the marble beneath them pulsed faintly with their footfalls. In the air, whispering returned—only now it wasn't aimless. It was... waiting.
A figure stirred at the gates.
A ghost of a man, wrapped in ceremonial armor, his face hidden by a cracked jade mask. In his hand, he held a broken scepter.
"Who seeks entry to the Court of Judgment?" the specter intoned, voice echoing like bells underwater.
Shen Liang stepped forward. "I am Shen Liang of the Fallen Line, bearer of Qingxuan's sin."
"And I," Yue said quietly, "am the daughter of the Moon-Ear, with Qingxuan's legacy in my blood."
The ghost's mask tilted. "Two remnants. One blade. Enter and be judged."

The gates swung open.
Inside, murals decorated the walls—living images that moved subtly when Yue looked away. They showed battles across planes, temples falling from the sky, and finally, a single figure standing alone atop a mountain, holding a bloodied scroll.
"That's..." Yue began.
"Master Tianxu," Shen Liang said, reverent and ashamed. "Founder of Qingxuan. He led the rebellion when Heaven declared the system law forbidden. He nearly succeeded."
"But you betrayed them?"
"No," he said slowly. "I failed them."
They reached the end of the hall, where the ghost of the jade-masked man awaited. "The trial begins," he said. "The Court demands restoration. Memory must be paid in blood."
Stone platforms rose beneath their feet.
The dungeon shimmered, and the real trial began.
