Chapter 24 – Rumors and Rivals

It started with whispers.

In the cafeteria's glittering glass atrium, over bowls of stardust cereal and coffee that sang lullabies, Lyra noticed it first in the way heads turned a second too slowly when she walked by. Not hostile… but charged. Students who'd never noticed her before suddenly tracked her movements, their voices hushed but intense.

Kai caught on next. He was always quiet, but now he stood a little closer during lunch, his eyes roaming the room with more alertness than usual. Yuu noticed too, his synth's display flickering erratically whenever someone passed too close. Rin just glared and muttered under her breath, "Ugh, jealous snobs."

Lyra didn't want to believe it at first. But when she entered the practice dome that afternoon, a message was scrawled in glowing graffiti on the digital wall.

"Hope the AI sings at the trial too. 🤖🎤"

She stopped in her tracks.

Rin gasped. "What the hell is this?"

Kai scowled and turned toward the door. "Who did this?"

Yuu's fingers danced across the synthpad interface. "Three users entered this room before us. All third-year. Part of Arclight Dynasty."

Lyra just stared at the words. Her hands trembled, not with fear—but with familiarity.

This again.

The same pattern from her old world. Accusations, then isolation. Only this time, she had friends. Bandmates. A title.

And VIVA.

The AI materialized beside her in a gentle shimmer. "Ignore them," VIVA said calmly, though its voice carried an edge of static, like a held-back scream. "Your integration with me has been verified and authorized by University law. You are not in violation of any regulation."

"But they don't care about rules," Lyra whispered. "They care about perception."

Kai stepped forward and placed a steady hand on her shoulder. "Let them talk. We'll drown them out with music."

Rin cracked her knuckles. "Or with fists."

Yuu tilted his head. "Perhaps both."

But the rumors didn't fade. They evolved.

Some said Lyra hacked the emotional resonance scores. Others claimed she bribed Professors. One particularly venomous blog post hinted that she seduced her band into supporting her.

VIVA did its best to delete or suppress them in student forums, but the shadow lingered. Lyra knew that even when the lies disappeared, the doubt remained.

And as if summoned by that tension, the formal challenge came three days later.

A sleek black envelope slid under their dorm door. It was sealed with silver ink in the shape of a harp wreathed in flame. The emblem of Arclight Dynasty.

Inside was a single card:

Duel Request: Arclight Dynasty vs. Soul SyncDate: Tomorrow NightVenue: Prism Hall (Open Arena)Mode: Resonance Clash – Original Song + InterpretationPrize: 200 MPAudience: Full Campus Broadcast

Rin's jaw dropped. "They're targeting us directly."

Kai narrowed his eyes. "They want to humiliate us in front of everyone."

Yuu tapped the card thoughtfully. "Then we make it impossible to ignore us for the right reasons."

Lyra held the card tightly, feeling the weight of every syllable.

This wasn't just about points or pride.

This was war.

A resonance war.

And even if they threw everything they had at her—

She wasn't alone this time.

She had Soul Sync.

She had her voice.

And she had a world that would finally listen.
