Chapter 18: Lin Xinyue’s Punishment

"Yes, sir." Lin Xinyue stepped out, returning shortly with the rest of the secretaries.

Ethan Yu's gaze was icy as he addressed them. "You've all worked with me for years and know my expectations. This incident has been a major disappointment."

The secretaries lowered their heads in shame.

"Since no one is willing to take responsibility, you're all dismissed. Replacements will be arranged today. Rest assured, you'll receive the compensation you're entitled to."

"President Yu…" The secretaries turned pale.

Leaving 'Dongfang' meant losing a prestigious position and benefits. Despite their pleas, Ethan remained resolute.

The leak was likely the work of a mole aiming to damage the company during a critical period. Unable to identify the culprit, Ethan chose to dismiss them all.

His approach was ruthless: better to remove all suspects than let the guilty party remain.

Realizing there was no room for negotiation, the secretaries accepted their fate.

Lin Xinyue, believing she was also being dismissed, felt a pang of sorrow.

Suddenly, Ethan spoke. "Director Lin, although you were negligent, your willingness to take responsibility is noted. Instead of dismissal, you'll be transferred back to the Design Department. Any objections?"

Surprised and relieved, Lin Xinyue replied, "No objections."

She was grateful to keep her job, though saddened by the prospect of no longer working closely with Ethan.

"If there are no objections, you may all leave."

"President Yu, this isn't fair…" one secretary protested.

Ethan's sharp gaze silenced him. "Is shirking responsibility fair? If you wish to continue your careers in C City, you'd better learn your lesson."

The implied threat was clear: he could blacklist them, making future employment difficult. No one dared speak further.

After they left, Chai Xiyang couldn't help but question, "Ethan, you know Lin Xinyue isn't responsible. Why punish her?"

Ethan replied calmly, "She's not suited for the Chief Secretary role."

"Then why appoint her in the first place?"

"I acted on impulse, wanting to compensate her. But it's clear now that she's not fit for the position."

Ethan regretted letting sentiment influence his decision. Lin Xinyue's inexperience made her ill-equipped for such a critical role.

Moreover, her failure to report the discovery of the divorce agreement had eroded his trust in her.

Unaware of this, Lin Xinyue didn't realize that her silence had cost her Ethan's goodwill.

Ethan changed the subject. "Do you have any suggestions on how to handle this situation?"
