Chapter 37: Untraceable Truths
Two days after the showdown in Zurich.
The summit had been evacuated.
The soulprint network stabilized—for now.
But the unease lingered like smoke.
Rina sat alone in a dim room, watching an old video loop.
Footage of her and Eliot, three years ago. Laughing. Planning. Falling in love.
And then… static.
Gaps.
Entire days missing from her memory file.
"How is this possible?" she whispered.
Savannah entered behind her.
"They were wiped," she said. "Not just by the Replicants. By you."
---
Eliot, elsewhere in the compound, stared at a locked vault.
Labeled: PROJECT K-D.
Inside: a sealed black cube.
Unmarked. Cold. Pulsing faintly.
Dr. Elowen warned, "That cube holds the truth behind your existence."
"My existence?" Eliot asked.
"Eliot…" she hesitated. "There's a reason you could track your Replicant so easily. There's a reason it feared you."
"What are you saying?"
Elowen turned away.
"You were never part of Kane's enemy list. Because you were never outside it."
---
Rina pulled a chip from her neck. Plugged it into the scanner.
The computer returned a name.
> Subject Origin: Rina Kane Project - Reinstatement Alpha
Her hands trembled.
"What does it mean?" Savannah asked.
Rina's voice was hollow.
"It means I wasn't just a target."
She looked up.
"I might be a prototype."
