Chapter 47: The Heart of the Storm
The storm outside surged, white and furious. But inside the cabin, the real storm was just beginning.
Rina stood at the center of the room, surrounded by files, old monitors, and Eliot's steady presence. Her hands trembled—but not from fear. From awakening.
"This was never just about science," she murmured. "It was about obsession."
Eliot nodded, his eyes locked on hers.
"And now we know what they wanted. What he wanted."
Rina stepped forward.
"They built us. Rewrote us. Erased us."
Her voice cracked—but she kept going.
"But we're still here."
---
Suddenly, the laptop buzzed.
A new window appeared.
> INCOMING TRANSMISSION
Secure Line: SAVANNAH
Eliot clicked it without hesitation.
Savannah's face appeared, flickering and faint. She looked worn, but her eyes burned with urgency.
"Rina. Eliot. You've triggered the last sequence."
Rina frowned. "What sequence?"
Savannah's voice dropped low.
"The failsafe your father installed. Once the truth is uncovered… they'll come for you."
Eliot leaned in. "Who?"
Savannah hesitated.
"…Everyone."
---
She continued, fast and sharp.
"The government cut ties with HeartSync three years ago—but private funders didn't. Your father went underground. They still believe you're the key."
She turned to Rina.
"They'll try to take you. Again."
"No," Eliot growled. "They won't."
Savannah nodded.
"I've uploaded the rest of the files. Including your real identities… and where it all started. There's a location tag in the drive—Geneva, Switzerland. Sector Twelve. Go. Before they find you."
The screen cut to black.
---
Rina stood frozen.
Geneva.
Sector Twelve.
Her past—their past—was waiting.
And so were the ghosts.
Eliot took her hand.
"You don't have to do this alone."
She met his gaze.
"I never did."
