Meanwhile, outside Yorknew City, Kurapika rescued Gon and Killua.
They got in the car and headed back. Kurapika looked in the rearview mirror.
"What happened? Why did they let you go?"
Gon shook his head. "I don't know."
"Maybe they realized we were useless," Killua said uncertainly.
Kurapika didn't believe that. If they were useless, they would have been killed.
They must have judged that killing them would cause trouble.
He didn't press further.
"Who were they?" Kurapika asked, curious how Gon and Killua, with their skills, could be captured by ordinary Nen users.
"I don't know, but they looked like soldiers," Gon said.
Killua was surprised. "How did you figure that out, Gon? I didn't notice."
Gon looked at Killua. "Didn't you notice? Their clothes—camouflage hats, pants, tactical vests—especially their leader's military knife."
Killua thought back. Gon was right.
They weren't completely dressed as soldiers, but each had some military attire—clothes, pants, or equipment.
Killua snapped his fingers. "I saw their ability when they knocked me out."
Kurapika asked, "What ability?"
"They all grew wings and flew away."
"All of them?" That was unbelievable. Nen abilities varied widely; flight wasn't unusual.
But everyone having the same ability was strange.
It could be explained if they all developed the same ability, but they'd have to be from the same Nen type.
The probability was extremely low.
'Why did they all have the same ability?' Kurapika wondered, driving and thinking.
Loki looked up at the sky. A cloud covered the moon.
His eyes narrowed, focusing on the cloud.
The sound of something falling became clearer. Loki's brow relaxed.
'An aerial attack!' He activated his Nen, creating a defensive barrier.
Powerful Nen, red like fire, surrounded him.
The sound grew closer. A faint dark spot appeared in the clouds.
Loki's eye veins bulged. His Byakugan revealed not one spot, but thirty-six.
The first one was rapidly descending, growing larger in Loki's eyes, almost reaching him instantly. The Nen around Loki surged.
"Efficient. An aerial assault," Loki commented. Flames erupted in his hand. He leaped into the air.
The cloud parted, revealing the moonlight. Loki, flames in hand, soared towards the descending figure, leaving a red trail behind him.
In the moonlight, Loki saw the man's face—ordinary features. He wore a black vest, dark green waterproof pants (like for camping), and black military boots.
He was descending headfirst, his fist glowing faintly with moonlight. Loki sensed danger.
There was no time to react. As they collided, Loki punched, his Nen erupting in flames. The fiery blast shot upwards, engulfing the man.
Loki stared intently. The flames surged, then a figure emerged—unharmed! Even the Phantom Troupe couldn't withstand his flames unharmed. Loki's lips curled into a smile.
The figure charged at Loki, his moonlight-infused fist smashing into him.
Dong! A powerful blast echoed. Loki was sent flying, crashing through the building floor after floor, finally hitting the ground with a massive thud, creating a huge crater.
The dust settled.
The man's attack, combined with gravity and Nen, was difficult even for Loki to block.
He used his Nen to create wings to slow his descent, landing safely on the rooftop.
His thirty-six companions landed safely as well.
"Idiot. Trying to take the boss's attack head-on. That kid's a fool," one of them said.
Their Nen seemed to connect, flowing towards their leader. Pakunoda, watching from hiding, was shocked.
'Thirty-six people's Nen, connected and merged into one. This is the first time I've seen this kind of Nen ability.'
The attack that sent Loki flying was the combined power of thirty-six people.
'How did they do that?' she wondered.
