As she said this, she didn't notice that his body stiffened just a little.
"Do you want to see Mr. Jeffrey?" he asked her.
"There's no point in wanting or not wanting. He and I are from two completely different worlds," she replied. "But come to think of it, his back in a suit kinda looks like yours. I bet if our Jeffrey wore a suit, he'd look super good too."
He pressed his lips tightly together and didn't say anything.
She went on, "Let's save some money. When spring comes, we'll buy you a suit. That way, if you ever need to dress formally for a job interview or something, you'll have something decent to wear."
"If you ever met Mr. Jeffrey… what would you say to him?" he asked all of a sudden.
Rachel went silent. After a long pause, she let out a small, self-mocking laugh. "I'd beg him to leave me alone."
He looked surprised. "That's all?"
"Yeah," she answered.
