This time, it was Gu Rong who stayed behind to guard the sect, while Ning Fengzhi not only brought Sword Douluo Chen Xin, but also his wife along. In addition, five Soul Douluos and Xu Yang—a Soul Emperor—were in the group, and even Poison Douluo Dugu Bo had been invited to join. This lineup was nothing short of luxurious.
After all, hundred-thousand-year soul beasts that haven't taken human form possess combat power and vitality that far exceed the average Titled Douluo, making them extremely difficult to kill. That's why, in the original story, Bibi Dong had to lead multiple elders to besiege Da Ming and Er Ming—two such soul beasts. On her own, she risked letting them escape, and missing a chance to hunt a hundred-thousand-year soul beast was a rare loss indeed.
Their first destination this time was the port of Zhenchi City in the Western Amoris Province.
Compared to the western Hanhai City, Zhenchi was a much more desolate place. There weren't many sea soul masters here, and since it was quite far from Sea God Island, some of them were unaffiliated. These sea soul masters had joined the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan thanks to generous compensation.
They were the main force searching for traces of hundred-thousand-year soul beasts across the South Sea.
One of them was a seventy-fourth-ranked Soul Sage named Amos. His martial soul was the Scale-Finned Swordfish, and he was the team leader. Today, he had been waiting at the harbor early in the morning with a luxurious ship docked behind him.
The ship stood out among the surrounding vessels—it was a metallic ship built as a semi–soul tool vessel. In other words, its core components were soul tools, while the rest was traditional metal construction. The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan had commissioned it specifically for deep-sea beast scouting.
Not long after, Amos spotted a group approaching. Leading the way were Ning Fengzhi and his wife. He immediately stepped forward and greeted respectfully, "Amos of the subordinate fleet greets the Clan Master, Madam, and all Elders."
"No need for formalities," Ning Fengzhi smiled, stepping closer. He asked softly, "Amos, what's the situation with the Golden Tortoise?"
Amos replied earnestly, "Clan Master, the Golden Tortoise is currently at Falling Moon Island, ten thousand nautical miles out. According to our observations, it regularly climbs ashore to absorb moonlight."
Xu Yang raised an eyebrow. "Falling Moon Island?"
Amos explained, "It's quite a peculiar island. At night, visible moonlight often blankets it, which is how it got its name. But due to the hundred-thousand-year soul beast inhabiting it, we haven't dared to get too close."
Xu Yang's expression turned curious. "Interesting. Are there many such islands in the sea?"
Amos shook his head. "Not really. As far as we know, this is the only one of its kind."
At that moment, Ning Fengzhi leaned in and asked, intrigued, "Yang'er, does this island have any particular significance?"
Xu Yang shook his head. "Hard to say for now. We'll need to see it with our own eyes. But if visible moonlight is falling over the land, I suspect there's a large population of Falling Moon Flowers growing on the island—likely aged and abundant."
Falling Moon Flowers were plant-type soul beasts that contrasted with Sun Flower. The latter cultivated using sun power, while the former absorbed moonlight. Both were known for their incredible support effects. Xu Yang was certain that there were quite a few powerful soul beasts on that island.
"In that case, let's depart!"
Seeing no further issues, Ning Fengzhi didn't waste time. He led everyone aboard the armored ship and set off for their destination.
The journey would take a month, even on a soul tool–assisted armored ship. Sea voyages were long and dull—at first, the ocean view was entertaining, but it quickly grew monotonous.
Xu Yang, aside from daily cultivation, spent his time at the bow of the ship, fishing alongside Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin, a rod in hand.
"So boring! I should've brought Yanzi along… we could've passed the time more enjoyably." After three hours without catching a single fish, Xu Yang finally grumbled aloud.
Ning Fengzhi rolled his eyes. Saying that right in front of me? Although he already knew that both Dugu Yan and Ning Rongrong were bound to marry Xu Yang, hearing it so bluntly still made him uncomfortable.
"Clan Master, we're almost there! That's Falling Moon Island ahead, and the Golden Tortoise is resting in the coral reef on the island's western side!" Amos emerged from the cabin and handed Ning Fengzhi a telescope, pointing at a black speck in the distance.
At his words, Xu Yang immediately activated his Sun Golden Eyes, peering in that direction. Through his enhanced vision, the speck expanded—revealing an island about the size of three Seven Treasure Cities. Nearby, golden tortoises could occasionally be seen poking their heads out of the water, appearing completely relaxed.
But the most eye-catching sight was the massive golden tortoise sunbathing on the beach like a small mountain—over thirty meters long and five meters tall. Its shimmering gold shell gleamed under the sun, making it hard to look away. Its mouth occasionally opened, seemingly asleep.
"Wow. That relaxed, huh? Totally different from the tense atmosphere of the Star Dou Forest or the Extreme North—this one's completely let down its guard."
Soul beasts normally lived in constant strife for food and survival. Highly vigilant, they would react at the slightest disturbance—either attacking, fleeing, or clustering together for protection.
But this group of tortoises, especially the hundred-thousand-year Golden Tortoise, looked far too at ease—like they'd lived peacefully for too long and forgotten the law of survival.
Xu Yang suspected it had something to do with their environment. Tortoises were reptiles and not true marine beasts. They lived in the shallow coral reef zones, while higher-level sea soul beasts generally resided in deep water. That meant the tortoises faced little competition or threat, enabling them to live securely.
If Xu Yang could see this, so could Ning Fengzhi. He lowered the telescope and gave the order: "Amos, keep your crew stationed nearby. Sword Uncle, Qing'er, Senior Dugu, Wang Xu, Hai Yan… and Xu Yang—we'll fly over directly. We must strike before that Golden Tortoise retreats into the sea. Eliminate it on the beach."
"Understood!" everyone responded in unison.
Sword Douluo conjured a massive flying sword, and the group leapt aboard. Now a level 98 Super Douluo, he could restrain his soul power completely within the sword, keeping the Golden Tortoise unaware of their approach.
While flying, Ning Fengzhi turned to Dugu Bo and said, "Senior Dugu, this time, we're counting on you."
Dugu Bo smiled faintly. His pupils shimmered with green light as he replied, "Leave it to this old man. I'd like to see whether a hundred-thousand-year soul beast can endure the poison of my Jade Phosphor Serpent."
