Chapter 23: The Flying Gillian Technique

The little Hollow scurried along the sands, completely unaware of my massive presence looming behind it. I wasn't planning to eat it. No, eating was for the other guys. I had a system. A mission.

Do stupid things, earn EP, survive long enough to evolve.

And today's brilliant, definitely not questionable idea was simple:

I would jump.

Yes — a six-story-tall Gillian leaping through the air.

Would it work? Probably not.

Would it get me EP? Absolutely.

I took a few steps back, my heavy, lumbering frame causing tremors with every movement. The smaller Hollow felt the vibrations and froze, its tiny mask turning toward me in horror.

"Gggrrrooohhh!"

(Translation: "Incoming idiot!")

I charged forward, clumsy and loud, each step making a dull, thunderous thud. Then, at what I assumed was the perfect moment, I pushed off the ground with my tree trunk-like legs.

Time slowed.

For a glorious, fleeting second, I was airborne — an enormous, lanky Gillian flying over the sands of Hueco Mundo like some deranged sand crane.

The little Hollow squealed and bolted, kicking up a trail of dust as my massive shadow overtook it.

Yes! Worth it.

Then, gravity remembered me.

I came crashing down with the force of a collapsing building. The sand beneath me erupted in a mushroom cloud of dust and debris, obscuring the entire area. I lay there for a moment, sprawled out awkwardly on my side, limbs half-buried in the sand.

"Grgh…ooh."

(Translation: "I'm alive?")

Double reward!

I grinned under my long, hollow mask. This was genius.

As the dust settled, I noticed something strange off in the distance. A group of five silhouettes was standing there, watching me.

I squinted — as much as a Gillian could squint.

It was those Adjuchas again.

Same as before, they didn't say a word, just observing my idiocy with unreadable expressions. I could feel their reiatsu even from here. They were strong. Way beyond me. But… they still didn't attack.

One of them, their leader — the tall one with sharp eyes — leaned slightly toward the others, probably whispering something.

I tilted my head.

"Grrhh?"

(Translation: "You guys here for the show?")

Another idea struck me.

If the last stunt worked, maybe I could impress them even more. Or at least confuse them into leaving me alone.

Time for 'Twirling Gillian Tornado.'

I slowly rose to my feet, stretched out my long arms like wings, and started spinning in place. It was awkward, clumsy, and absolutely idiotic. My massive form spun like a top, creating a swirling vortex of sand around me.

From the corner of my vision, I swore I saw one of the Adjuchas slap a hand over his mask in disbelief.

Mission accomplished.

I staggered to a stop, nearly falling over, my vision swaying as if the entire desert was still spinning. The group of five turned, walking away into the dark horizon, leaving me to my idiotic, glorious solitude.

I plopped down into the sand, exhausted.

"Hueco Mundo's idiot strikes again," I muttered to myself, chuckling.

I glanced up at the ever-night sky. Only moon.

And tomorrow?

Tomorrow would be another day for dumb ideas and chasing EP.
