The silence that followed the battle was misleading—thick, suffocating, like the air before a storm. The ruined temple groaned as wind pushed through its shattered archways. But beneath it, something ancient stirred.
Kai stood at the center, still glowing faintly with embers. Ayaka rested against a crumbling column, and Ren kept a vigilant eye on the shadows. It was Ren who noticed it first—the faint vibration beneath their feet.
"Do you hear that?" he asked.
Kai frowned. "The ground… it's humming."
Ayaka closed her eyes, sensing it. "It's not just the ground. It's... calling. Like a pulse, coming from below."
Before they could react, the floor beneath them cracked.
A glowing sigil burst open beneath their feet, and all three were pulled down through a tunnel of spiraling light and stone. Wind howled past them. Time twisted. Then—impact.
They landed hard in a cavern filled with glowing roots and forgotten statues. In the center of the space, a massive crystal pulsed with light—the color of twilight. Neither fire nor ice, not wind nor water. It was something older.
Kai staggered up, staring. "What... is this?"
Ayaka's voice was barely a whisper. "It's the Origin Heart."
Ren blinked. "The what-now?"
"The source of the world's first elemental balance," she said. "It's real… I thought it was just myth."
As they approached, the heart pulsed again—and a voice echoed in their minds.
"Three vessels… fractured yet whole. The final trial begins."
The crystal exploded with energy.
Visions poured into their minds—flashes of their past, their pain, the people they lost. But more than that: visions of the future. Broken futures. Futures if they failed.
They fell to their knees, gasping.
And then, from the crystal's core, three cloaked figures emerged—each bearing the face of someone they had once trusted... and now feared.
The trial of truth had begun.
