The Rootless blurred through the air like a crack in reality — every move leaving streaks of unformed matter in its wake.
Kai raised his arms just in time.
> Boom!
The impact sent shockwaves through the valley. Earth cracked. Trees tore from their roots.
Ren activated his barrier talismans, but even they flickered.
Ayaka leapt into the fray, blade glowing with spirit light.
> "Kai! Don't hold back!"
But Kai was already burning.
The Rootfire spiraled from his hands, twisting into golden tendrils that lashed at the creature. The flame had changed — it didn't just destroy, it adapted.
He struck.
> Fwoooosh!
The Rootless shrieked as the fire connected. Its bark-mask splintered — revealing not a face, but a void.
---
> "You are still incomplete," the Rootless hissed.
"The First One feared the truth. Will you?"
Kai gritted his teeth. "I am the truth."
The fire exploded from within him — not wild, but refined.
A third flame.
Not the old Rootfire. Not the sealed one.
Something born of Kai himself.
The Rootless reeled.
---
Then the sky tore further — more cracks opening above them.
Figures loomed within. More Rootless. Watching. Judging.
Ayaka whispered, "There's more coming."
Kai nodded. "Then we end this one before they descend."
He closed his eyes.
His body lifted off the ground — surrounded in a cocoon of root, flame, and wind.
> "This is for every ancestor who bled to give us breath."
> "Flame Root Style — Final Bloom: Skyburn Spiral."
He launched upward, piercing through the Rootless.
> BOOOOOOM!
The sky screamed.
---
When the light faded… only Kai stood.
Breathing.
Shaking.
The Rootless was gone.
But the sky above remained cracked.
And the worst was still watching.
