Chapter 154: The Surprise Attack on Alex

Since this was a matter concerning the vampire clans and had nothing to do with mutants, Alex didn't bring anyone else along. He left the mutant base accompanied only by Selene.

"Supreme One."

Outside the base, a sleek convoy of vehicles was already waiting. Selene personally led Alex to a black Cadillac—third in line—holding the door open for him.

It was the full royal treatment. This… this was how it felt to move like a boss.

As the convoy set off, Selene handed over a thick folder. "Supreme One, this is the list of invited clans and attendees for the ceremony. Please have a look."

Alex was naturally curious about which other vampire lineages existed in this world, so he casually flipped through the list.

Most of the names were unfamiliar—but then, one entry made him pause.

Elijah Mikaelson?

Alex raised an eyebrow and glanced over at Selene. "Elijah Mikaelson?"

"The Mikaelson family is one of the most famous in our circles. They're known as the Originals," Selene explained respectfully. "Elijah is the eldest—an ancient and powerful vampire, known for his elegance and honor."

"I met him once, years ago in Northern Europe. He's a Supreme worthy of deep respect."

"He wouldn't happen to have a brother named… Klaus?" Alex asked, recalling the name from some half-remembered lore.

Selene smiled slightly. "It seems the Supreme One is well-informed."

She nodded. "Yes—Niklaus Mikaelson. But unlike Elijah, Klaus is... different. Brutal. Unhinged. A monster."

Her tone dropped a notch. "And since you mentioned him, I should warn you—he's a potential risk."

"Oh?" Alex asked, intrigued. "Wasn't he invited?"

"No," Selene replied seriously. "Elder Marcus made the decision to invite only Elijah and his sister, Rebekah. Klaus was deliberately excluded."

Alex frowned. "That's asking for trouble, isn't it? Why exclude him?"

"Because, Supreme One, Klaus is a hybrid. Part vampire, part werewolf."

Ah.

Alex instantly understood.

Vampires and werewolves had always been natural enemies. Having both bloodlines in your veins? That was enough to make anyone mistrust you.

"Rest assured, we've discussed this with Elijah. He's promised Klaus will not appear. But… Klaus has always been unpredictable. So I believe it's worth preparing for the worst."

Selene's tone was solemn now.

Alex nodded. "I get it."

In truth, he wasn't particularly concerned. If Klaus behaved, fine. If he acted up? Well, Alex would be more than happy to introduce him to the wonders of sunlight.

"What other clans should I be aware of?" he asked.

"The Volturi," Selene answered immediately, flipping to another page. "A terrifying group. They're the ones who established most of our current undead laws."

That alone made clear how powerful they were.

"They have nine permanent guard members, all of whom possess supernatural abilities. The Volturi number in the thousands."

She flipped again. "And then there's the Cullen clan."

"Most overlook them because they're discreet. Their family is scattered across the globe. But they're powerful nonetheless."

"Their patriarch, Carlisle Cullen, is humble and kind—but he's one of the most formidable Supremes alive."

"The Cullens also don't feed on human blood. They're known as… vegetarian vampires."

"Carlisle won't be a problem," Selene added. "But there is one member to watch out for: Alice Cullen. She can see the future."

Volturi. Cullens. Vampires with supernatural powers.

Alex's lips curled into a smirk.

What was shaping up to be a boring, ceremonial affair… might actually be fun after all.

SCREECH!

CRASH!

Mid-conversation, the sound of tires screeching to a halt echoed up the road. The convoy slammed on their brakes. Alex's car veered sharply, nearly skidding into a tree.

Of course, given Alex and Selene's abilities, this wasn't even a mild threat—but Selene's expression had already darkened.

"Supreme One, I'll check it out."

With that, she opened the door and stepped out.

At the front of the convoy, she spotted the problem immediately: a beat-up pickup truck had appeared out of nowhere and stopped diagonally in the middle of the road, blocking their path.

BANG!

The truck's door opened. A gaunt-looking man in cowboy boots stepped out from the driver's seat.

Around his neck hung a glowing blue pendant—shaped like a wolf fang.

This man was none other than Smith, the mysterious hunter searching for the Sacred Stone.

Smith looked down at the pulsing glow of the pendant, then let out a breathy murmur, eyes gleaming with manic excitement.

"Found you."

"Move your truck," Selene said coldly, approaching with her umbrella and glaring him down. "Or I'll move it myself."

But Smith didn't answer.

He simply looked at her, then shook his head. "Not you."

Then he stepped forward, eyes scanning the cars. "Not you… not you…"

Selene furrowed her brow, expression stiffening. She didn't know what this madman was looking for, but she was not about to let him cause chaos.

She raised a hand and signaled silently to two of her men.
