"It'd be best if I could strike a deal with Miss Coconut Tree Hanging For Heads to get the related items. Otherwise, I'd have to hunt Rose School of Thought members or stir up trouble with some demon family. Shame the Chained God's already been wrecked by the Mother Tree—items tied to Him would've been perfect…"
Evah mused, feeling a touch of regret. His first two Sequences used items linked to Angel Kings, so settling for ordinary Sequence 2 materials now felt a bit lackluster.
"No, can't get cocky! And it's not like there's no chance…" Evah muttered, a few plans flashing through his mind. He wasn't in a rush to act, though—Sequence 7 was still a ways off.
Putting Sequence 7 thoughts aside, Evah eagerly turned to testing his new abilities.
He grabbed a mirror with enthusiasm, washed his face clean, and studied his naturally flawless features. After a moment's thought, he began making subtle tweaks.
A few minutes later, a striking man emerged: jet-black curly hair like the night, eyes gleaming gold like sunlight. With Evah's adjustments, his features were now more mature. If his original look was that of a youthful twenty-something, this version appeared closer to thirty, with sharper angles and a hint of world-weariness in his eyes.
"Not bad. This only looks about 20% like the original me…" Evah nodded, satisfied. He grabbed some cosmetics and got to work with practiced ease. In no time, the man in the mirror, who'd still borne a slight resemblance to Luo Lin, became someone entirely unrelated—someone you wouldn't connect to him even face-to-face.
Evah carefully selected an outfit from his wardrobe suited for a mature gentleman. Once dressed, he pulled a pair of gold-rimmed glasses from somewhere and put them on, adding a refined yet roguish charm to his vibe.
He then produced an ancient, mysterious-looking notebook, opened it, and held it in one hand. With the other, he adjusted his glasses, nodding approvingly at his reflection.
Evah raised an eyebrow at the mirror, his smile playful yet teasing. He snapped the notebook shut, gave a slight bow to his reflection, and said, "Greetings, Mr. Evah Zoroast. I'd like to invite you to star in a new script. How about it?"
Then, dropping the playful edge, he flashed a warm, radiant smile at the mirror. "Is it possible, Mr. Lucifer, that I'm already the star?"
That's right—this was the appearance he'd crafted for "Lucifer Zoroast."
The rest was the persona Evah had written for "Lucifer Zoroast." In this setup, Lucifer was once a transmigrated youth who just wanted to coast through life, only to cross paths with Amon. Though he escaped Amon's clutches, the encounter "Amon-ified" him, turning him into a full-blown trickster and thrill-seeker.
Of course, to keep the "Lucifer" alias from sliding into villain territory, Evah gave him a moral baseline—a Trickster with a conscience, so to speak.
Meanwhile, "Jack Jones" existed in the setup as the tether keeping "Lucifer" from going fully off the rails. Jack reminded Lucifer of his roots as a youth raised under the red flag, a fellow displaced soul from the same era. This made Lucifer's last shred of conscience—a classic trope, right?
"Here's hoping the Qilangos incident doesn't get butterflied away. That's my planned debut stage for Lucifer Zoroast, my first performance as an Actor…"
Evah chuckled, thinking of something, then stretched lazily. "But before that, joining the Tarot Club is the move. Hope Miss Justice moves fast—I'm dying to get my hands on Mr. Fool's honorific name…"
Evah's hopes weren't in vain. Just two days later, he received an invitation from Viscount Glaint, asking him, Fors, and Xio to visit his home to discuss occult knowledge. In return, Glaint offered access to his family's library.
It was a perfectly reasonable invite. For someone like Glaint, half-stepped into the Beyonder world but still a novice in occult matters, seeking insights from seasoned occultists like Jack Jones was only natural.
And as the saying goes, every trade has its specialty. The Glaint family, with its long aristocratic lineage, surely had a library with obscure knowledge, history, or secrets unknown to commoners like Xio and Fors—perfect as payment.
If Evah weren't already in the know, he'd never have guessed this was Audrey's doing.
Naturally, he accepted the invitation, heading to Viscount Glaint's villa with Xio and Fors. After sharing plenty of Beyonder insights with Glaint, who soaked it all up with delight, the three were led to the family's library.
"Feel free to browse the books here, just don't damage them. If you find one you really like and want to borrow, let me know first," Viscount Glaint said generously.
Evah and the others happily agreed, splitting up to explore the library for books that caught their interest.
"Let's see… Where would Audrey hide Mr. Fool's honorific name, based on what she knows about 'Jack Jones'?" Evah's gaze swept over the rows of book titles, finally landing on one.
—The Rise and Fall of the Solomon Empire in the Fourth Epoch
Evah stepped forward, picking up the book, which had clearly been handled recently. He flipped through it with mild curiosity, soon finding a piece of paper tucked between the pages.
Feigning surprise, he took the paper and unfolded it, revealing a few lines of text. They seemed to be excerpts from a page of Roselle's diary, though a bit disjointed. Below them were several lines written in Hermes.
Evah pretended to study it intently, muttering under his breath, "The Fool that does not belong to this era; the mysterious ruler above the gray fog; the King of Yellow and Black who wields good luck? Huh!"
He put on a stunned expression, as if only realizing what he'd read after reciting the full honorific name. His eyes widened, and he quickly covered his mouth, glancing around nervously.
