He was so panicked with worry that he completely forgot Tirpitz still had one of the elite damage control fairies transferred from Lexington—there was no way she'd be killed in one shot.
Suddenly, a fierce shout echoed across the battlefield. A hurricane howled into existence, sweeping away the fireball and mushroom cloud in a roaring gust.
Where Hikaru and the others had stood moments before, there was now only a massive crater over a kilometer wide. Clumps of dirt still rained down from the sky. Tirpitz hovered lightly in the center of the pit, her long hair whipping wildly in the wind.
Hikaru, grimacing through a splitting headache, forced himself to look. He saw that while Tirpitz's clothes were somewhat damaged, she herself was unharmed. He finally let out a sigh of relief.
The enemy didn't attack again right away. Hikaru guessed that whoever it was must be facing off with Tirpitz. After all, she wasn't some pushover—she was widely acknowledged as the strongest in the world.
But precisely because Tirpitz was so strong, Hikaru's heart grew heavier. Could it be that someone like a flagship-level Abyssal—like Abyssal Barbarossa—was hiding inside his naval district?
"Do you know who the enemy is? That earlier attack… how was it so powerful?" Hikaru tried to rise from Lexington's embrace, but she was holding onto him tightly, rendering his efforts futile.
"I don't know. It felt like some kind of special skill. It was aimed directly at you. We almost couldn't stop it," Lexington said.
She waved her hand, launching a swarm of carrier aircraft. They spun in formation above Hikaru's head like a shield made of planes—dozens of aircraft forming a protective wall.
You couldn't blame Lexington for being overcautious. The earlier attack had left her deeply shaken. If she and Tirpitz had hesitated even a second, Hikaru would've been reduced to fish food—no, vaporized on the spot!
That was a blow more focused than a ten-thousand-ton nuclear blast and traveling at many times the speed of sound.
It was the kind of strike you'd only see once in a lifetime. Lexington was already considering retreat—abandoning the naval district, escaping with Hikaru.
The naval district was precious, yes. But it couldn't compare to Hikaru's life.
A new base could always be built. If the Commander was lost, then nothing in this world would be worth holding onto.
Before Lexington could make up her mind, Tirpitz roared again.
"DIE!!!"
The Queen of the North unleashed her full power. In the next moment, a sound like the heavens collapsing and the earth shattering tore through the air. The sea for hundreds of kilometers around erupted in a towering tsunami—waves tens of thousands of meters high surging toward the floating island like the end of the world.
As the waves advanced, they morphed into giant sea creatures—thousand-meter-long serpents, nine-headed hydras, walruses, sea lions—all charging toward the Commander's Office at the center of the island with terrifying sentience.
It was as if the heavens and earth had conspired to annihilate everything. The next moment would be like a meteor shattering the planet.
Hikaru turned away, unable to bear watching. It wasn't the battle that pained him—it was knowing that under such a strike, even if the enemy survived, the naval district and floating island were doomed.
His naval district had only just been manifested less than half an hour ago—still warm, so to speak. And now, it had already taken a shell that destroyed half of it, only to face this apocalyptic strike next… Hikaru's heart was shattering into pieces.
But he didn't stop Tirpitz. If she believed such power was necessary, then let her do as she pleased.
Asking someone of Tirpitz's caliber to hold back during a battle was like tying her hands behind her back and asking her to duel.
What a shame about the naval district. If it could only be manifested once… would he become a wandering Commander without a home?
Just as Hikaru was inwardly lamenting, a sharp and clear female voice suddenly rang out from the island, slicing through the thunder of the tsunami like a piercing arrow.
"Stop, Tirpitz!!!"
CRACK—
The monstrous tsunami Tirpitz had summoned froze in an instant. Towering ice walls thousands of meters high rose around the island like a colossal fortress of blue crystal, enclosing the floating island and blotting out the sky.
The ice walls groaned under pressure, emitting cracking noises. The frozen tsunami's icy blue structure creaked ominously, on the verge of collapse.
"She stopped the attack herself," Lexington said, standing on tiptoe and peering into the distance in bewilderment. "Who did she see?"
From the ruins of the half-collapsed dining hall, a woman floated out—draped in sheer aqua and white, as ethereal as a fairy.
The moment Hikaru laid eyes on her, he felt his soul leave his body. He was utterly captivated, unsure of where he was, what year it was, or even what his own name might be.
